Has anyone seen any firebugs this summer???
I have seen a few, but not like even last year.....and the ones I've seen are on the ground blinking, not even flying. Kinda sad really, I remember as a kid tons of them flying around in the summer. ;(

I've seen a bunch in the last week - my dog tries to catch them, but she gets so frustrated when they stop lighting up.

7. One night here in Southeast Texas
Edited on Mon Jul-19-04 03:37 PM by jedicord
we saw a few. The first time for my 10 year old son as a matter of fact. He loved them! I personally haven't seen any since I went to school in East Texas in the early 80's (no age jokes, please).

Maybe they flew down here? If so -- cool!

On edit - added missing words!

The twisted bastard was lurking around the back deck with a jug of kerosene and a box of blue-tip matches...

I ran him off and haven't seen him again, thank god.

Oh, you mean Fire Flies? Yeah, lots of em here in rural Alabama.

30. The little critters are still pretty plentiful here
in the SW burbs of Chicago. My friend's 5 and 3 year old run around every evening trying to catch them. Brings back lotsa memories for me and her.

The last bunch of years it has been so dry here in Kansas and there were so few of them then. This year we are very wet and there are tons of them.

Usually they are everywhere but I don't recall seeing too many of them this year. I think I must go out on a lightening bug hunt tonight!

26. I've seen some flying around.
The first I've noticed for several years.

At least, I assume you're talking about fireflies/lightning bugs -- not people who set fires. I haven't seen any of the latter flying around.

I was so happy! We went out to Western Mass to visit the mother in law. We were having a nice dinner outside and as it was getting dark they came out! Stuck around for about and hour.

28. I live near a "greenbelt" so there are tons. (clarification follows)
A "green belt" area is one of the areas within the city where there is no construction. The area is burned every spring or two to promote natural growth. The areas form a "belt" going through the city.
