My housecat/bobcat hybrid
Morrison's Mom was in heat in a Colorado mountain town and a bobcat came through the kitchen window and mated with her. Morrison was the only one in the litter. He weighs 26 lbs. and is the SWEETEST kitty cat. He loves kittens and saturates them with spit when he licks them. He is 10 years old.

2. Our cat weights 35 pounds
He is similarly HUGE. Not just fat and furry, but HUGE. Big head, big paws...big everything.

We've often wondered if he's part bobcat (we got him at a shelter).

How do you post pics. I've never really known how.

There's a picture of Billy Bob posted later in this thread.

It doesn't do him justice, though. He needs to be seen to be believed.

He may be big, but he's a real scaredy cat. He has NO IDEA how big he is.

38. I bet he's a Ragdoll
Ragdolls are the biggest domestic breed of cat. They max out after four full years of growth, often at 25-30 pounds. He's 35 lbs, you say? Yikes. He looks a lot like our one-year old Ragdoll Muji--same ruff, same kind of face (they're sweet cats but not very friendly-looking!), just different coloring.

Does he follow you around everywhere? Does he like to drop toys in his water? Does he have a very melodious voice? Does he go limp and relaxed when you pick him up? If so, he's a Ragdoll!

41. No, not a Ragdoll...
Ragdolls have light brown bodies with colored "points" like Siamese. Sometimes they also have white paws and/or a white mask across their nose and mouth on top of the dark mask on their face. It is possible that a mixed-breed cat could be half-Ragdoll and have that sort of black-and-white "tuxedo" coat, but not a purebred Ragdoll.

34. My friend heard the racket...
Edited on Tue Jul-20-04 04:56 AM by Roon
and came downstairs to investigate. She saw the bobcat flee the scene out the window. The bobcat tore through the screen to get to her. Mama wasn't outside the whole time she was in heat and if you saw this thing's paws when it was born....He also has a very "growly" "raspy" meow and his head is HUGE.

Everytime a newcomer comes to my house, I ask them:Do you want to see the biggest cat you'll ever see in your life? It's a lot of fun to see their reactions. I have yet to have anyone claim they have seen a bigger cat.

On Edit:It was a vet who said that it's very possible for a housecat and bobcats to mate and that is what confirmed it for us.We didn't go as far as having a genetic test, but there are breeders out there who sell/show these type cats and genetic testing is a MUST!

32. I cannot imagine this happening, but I'll take your word for it
I would have thought that a bobcat would have considered a housecat to be prey. But your cat is really a beautiful kitty and you are very lucky. What a lovely color and such a sweet face. He sounds like an exceptional cat, also in temperament. Cherish every moment. I lost my kitty in February and still miss her terribly.;(

33. I lost two kitties last year
within 4 months of each other. We had to put Dolly down because her kidney was failing. Then four months later Piggy quit eating because my lover and I broke up and we had to put HIM down. Didn't know that a kitty could commit suicide. :-(

37. I am so very sorry! What a terrible time you have had
I have been there, as well. Last year, I lost both of my cocker spaniels within six months of each other. My beloved Barney was 18, but it still hurt so much. It still does. Then my Sheena suddenly became sick and, despite all the extraordinary veterinary intervention I could find, I lost her as well. I feel your pain and sympathize.

44. Thank you. I still miss them terribly
I now have a tiny Brussels Griffon, a rare little dog, but he is also rescue. I thought Sheena was lonely after we lost Barney, so adopted him, but it turned out that she had Cushing's Syndrome, which made her hyper. But they did bond; he just loved her so much and slept behind her on her bed. He misses her terribly and now insists on sleeping behind me in my chair when I am typing on the computer.:-)

42. Bobcat-housecat crossbreeds are not unknown...
...as a matter of fact, there's a new cat breed, the Pixie-Bob, that claims to be the result of such crossings (although there's some dispute about those claims).

36. My in-laws had one of those but it was different
They called it "Bengal" and it had a huge head and scared the hell out of me because it would stare at me from atop the fridge with piercing eyes. It would dissappear for weeks on end then finally never returned. Weighing in at around 25 pounds with huge paws it must have kicked kitty butt all over the county.

40. What a beautiful cat!!
Yes, bobcats and domestic cats can mix. So can servals and domestic cats, and lynxes and domestic cats.

The Pixie-Bob is a breed of cat that was developed from bobcat/domestic cat hybrids.
