Weirdo anti-gay guy at my gym...
Last night, my partner and I were at the gym, doing our regular regimen of cardio followed by weights. While we're doing our weights, a greasy-looking man of about 40 comes up behind us and stands a little too close for comfort.

Then, he asks my partner, "Are you guys American gays?" First, I think: "American gays?" What does THAT mean. My partner says, "Yeah, we're gay." Then the weirdo says, "Well, your country loves you." "Are you American?," he asks. "Yes." "Do you love your country?," he asks. "Sure," my partner responds.

Then the strange man says, "I don't like fags myself, but your country does, and that's all that matters." Then, he walks away, thankfully.

More than anything, we were amused by this "conversation." But, what do you suppose it means?

He looked illiterate, but I first thought maybe it was a response to the defeat of the so-called "Federal Marriage Amendment"--that is, our country in his mind "loves us" because of the defeat of this amendment.

1. maybe it was his very clumsy way of beginning acceptance?
certainly it's a weird conversation, but imagine the intestinal fortitude it took for him to even walk over and start talking to you.

Still, though. I guess his message was something along the lines of:

"I disapprove of your way of life, but I respect your right to live in whatever manner you desire."

14. My Little JeanBug Has A New Name...
I like it... I really do!

If there was a Débutante "Coming-Out" Name-Change Announcement and celebration, I must have missed it.

Where should we send our gifts??

9. At first I wasn't sure. But he almost certainly was American.
He was either referring to the culture or the politics of the country but obviously sees himself as alienated from this aspect of it. Weird.

12. Maybe it was his freeper way of saying
"well, you may be gays, but hey, you're made in the U.S.A. gays, so you're all right in my book." No, I'm just kidding, I really have no idea what was going through his head.

17. Maybe he's starting to realize how dumb it is to ban gay marriages
and showed so in the bizarro way he knew how.

Or maybe he heard John Cornyn's stupid comment about box turtles and didn't want to be associated with something that stupid.

Or maybe he saw that picture of Rick Santorum with Pat Boone wearing an Orange Sports Jacket and figured our team had to be better

18. I'm guessing it's awkward acceptance
from an awkward guy. "American gays" is pretty weird, but it must have meaning for him. I.e., even though you're gay, you're American too, and that makes you somehow more acceptable. I just wonder if he has any idea what "foreign" gays are like.
