Todd Rundgren - solo / Joe Jackson - solo
with special guest Ethel

A gifted and visionary artist, continually charting new, unpredictable territory, Todd Rundgren kicked off his solo career more than 30 years ago with Something/Anything which spawned the now classic hits, "I Saw The Light" and "Hello, It's Me." Rundgren is a legend of the pop/rock pantheon and a recognized innovator in music technology with numerous successful solo albums and singles (including the novelty hit "Bang The Drum All Day") alongside many albums with his band Utopia. As a producer, Rundgren has earned a great reputation working with artists such as Meat Loaf, XTC, Patti Smith, New York Dolls, and many others. Liars, Todd's first studio album of all new material in over 10 years was recently released and Rundgren recently performed a benefit concert for Joe's Pub with a concert version of his musical Up Against It, originally produced at The Public Theater in 1989, based on an unfinished Joe Orton screenplay originally commissioned by the Beatles for their third movie."The consummate pop craftsman, the rock-n-roll messiah, has returned...You want the truth? Todd is God. Again." -Uncut (UK) www.tr-i.com

Joe Jackson's ability to move easily between rock, classical, "new wave" and swing has established him as one of music's true visionaries. Equally at home composing symphonies or pop songs, Joe is one of few artists to successfully shatter the boundary between classical and popular music, from the classic post punk band that exploded in the late 70's with Look Sharp to his ahead-of-its-time swing project Jumpin’ Jive, to the sophisticated urban pop of Night & Day, Vols. 1 & 2, to distinguished film scores and Grammy award-winning instrumental album Symphony No. 1. Jackson has recorded a live abum at Joe's Pub, 2001's Summer in the City – Live in New York, and recently joined Todd Rundgren on stage at the Pub in the benefit concert version of Rundgren's musical Up Against It. A composer who draws on the full range of his talents, Jackson makes music that is "sophisticated and true to his eclectic roots… constantly pushes the pop envelope without ever actually abandoning it. " -VH1.com www.joejackson.com

Ethel, New York's most-talked-about string quartet, has taken the new music world by storm with their 21st-century realization of the classical string quartet, featuring uptown and downtown performing stalwarts Ralph Farris, Dorothy Lawson, Todd Reynolds, and Mary Rowell. The powerhouse ensemble, whose sizzling technique and top-flight classical training has been tapped by a who's who of music, from Steve Reich to Joe Jackson, have been acclaimed as "...a mighty amplified force, with style, breadth, power, chops, and rock ‘n roll spirit.” (Andante.com). "I wish there were more rock bands who played like Ethel. What you get from Ethel is the sense of the performers participating in the act of making a living, breathing music that brings the format back into contemporary life and culture - while remaining an acoustic string quartet."- The Guardian (UK) www.ethelcentral.com

2. My Take On The First Two
I like Todd, but loved Utopia. I think that is his best, most consistent work, probably because he had those other guys pushing him.

Joe Jackson is the BEST piano player to ever work in the rock idiom. THE BEST! 'Nuff Said!

Ethel is ok. I could live with or without them. It's been done before by Kronos.

3. Would you pay $40 to see this show?
I would if I had it to give freely. But since I don't, I won't.
