I just watched True Romance - Ask Me Anything! |
|
BTW, have you ever had a film just pass you by? I don't know how I missed this one. I love the cast members, love Tarantino, but somehow this film passed right under my radar.
Great fun film. Needed more Walken, but doesn't every film need more Walken?
Not a single weak performance. Makes me wonder why Christian Slater isn't doing more, he was fantastic in it. Bronson Pinchot was great, Brad Pitt was PERFECT as usual.
Just a fantastic film. I'd buy it if it had any features on the DVD like commentary tracks.

1. Which version did you see? |
|
***Spoilers*****
The Hollywood version, or the "other" one.
Did she shoot Chris Penn at the end, or was it one of the gangsters?

So I guess the "other" one. Director's Cut, I believe it said.

2. Not only Walken but Hopper too! |
|
The scene between Christopher Walken and Dennis Hopper is tremendous, very memorable. Great to see the interaction between those two!
And Gandolfini shows up too!
Great cast. You realize how terrific the casting is when you see how underutilized Brad Pitt is and it's no great loss.

4. I almost forgot - Gary Oldman! |
|
First time I saw this picture I had no idea that Oldman played the Jamaican drug dealer/pimp until I saw the credits. He was fantastic! Tremendous actor.

new discoveries! I have seen him so many times and not realized it was the same guy I liked in something else. Well crafted characters. He has some mighty chops IMO. That was a great role for him, I loved it.

7. That was a great scene! |
|
Walken was so cool but you just knew what he was going to do. This is not usually my favorite kind of movie but it was done so well and the characters were so interesting that I loved it.

Great movie. It's funny, action-packed, violence and drugs. What more could you ask for? :D

6. Gary Oldman is amazing |
|
Edited on Tue Jul-20-04 02:19 PM by Lefty_the_Right
From the drug dealer in True Romance, to Zorg in Fifth Element, to the bad cop in the Proffesional, to the senator in the Contender.
He has "made" so many movies in supoporting roles. The best supporting actor, right after Samuel Jackson, of course.
Who was also in True Romance! Did you spot him?

Got nailed early, in the first Oldman scene.
Took a while to spot Val Kilmer, too.

15 minutes or so and was not watching closely when I first turned it on so I missed Val Kilmer and he is one I would most surely notice! Was there someone else? I always miss parts of movies!!

18. Kilmer plays "Elvis." As I recall, they couldn't get clearance from... |
|
...the Presley estate to show this character as actually BEING Elvis (though he was in the script), so they shot that character out of focus and never showed his face. The gold sequins (50 Millions Elvis Fans Can't Be Wrong) voice and mannerisms made it clear who it was, though.

12. Walken pretty near stole the show. |
|
He would have if his part had had more on screen time. His one scene was just tremendous. How he just sat there, calm, dapper and articulate. Yet there was an overpowering sense of menace. No one can pull of a monolouge like Walken.
Hell, the dialog in this movie was great. The music also rocked.
Trying to cast the same movie today would cost ten times as much.

16. They could have still done it |
|
Sometimes you can get a great cast if the script is excellent and folks want to collaborate together on a movie. Take Oceans Eleven/Twelve. That cast alone would cost close to $100mil to get in one movie.
Roberts: $20mill Pitt: $20mill Clooney: $15mill Bernie: $ 5mill Garcia: $ 5mill Cheadle: $ 5mill RestofCast: $10mill Sondenburgh:$ 5mill
Add in this movie with Catherine Zeta-Jones and she's another $15mill you can see that the cast would be damn expensive. But it's a great script and the folks want to work together which is why they can make this movie and not go over budget.

One of the actresses mentioned by Marcelous Wallace's wife. They were costars in her "Fox Force 5" pilot. The knife thrower I think.

From IMDB:
Tarantino's original ending had Clarence dying in the gun battle, leaving Alabama a widow. Tarantino said that he intended Alabama to turn to crime and join with Mr. White, a character from Reservoir Dogs (1992) (which he wrote and directed). In a flashback scene in Reservoir Dogs (1992), Mr. White is asked about "Alabama".

My answer was just so much bullshit! I made it up. Sounded good didn't it? As a former 20 year Republican, I learned to sling bullshit with the best of them. But I also learned what it smelled like and the Republican party has been pretty ripe of late, hence my departure from their ranks.

24. Right-In "dogs" Mr.White says "Yeah she is a very good thief" |
|
The boss asks him "What ever happened to that Alabama girl/chick?"
Mr.White (Harvey Kaitel)says something about her hooking up with a guy and says "Yeah she was a very good thief"
The Dogs DVD also features cut scenes like the one in which we see where Mr. White IS acutally taken the shot Mr.Orange (Tim Roth)----he is taking him to see the nurse (Tarantino's character's wife) in "Pulp Fiction".
Tarantino has several characters that intertwine his movies. Seymour Scagnetti (Mr. Blonde's parol officer) is mentioned in another movie as well.
Apparently Tarantino had a whole fake underworld draw up that he could use to make movie after movie if need be.

Usually it is the "Man of Action" type stars who lean toward conservatism. Stallone, Norris, Arnold (though Ron Silver is a bit of a shock also). The quirkier, can play any role types are usually by their very nature more on the liberal side of the aisle.

be the way it is but I really do not follow this stuff too much. Usually when I discover someone who I think is very good at their craft I will check them out if only to see what they have done and what is coming out so I don't miss it. Ahhh well, I can still respect his craftmanship I suppose!
