Got in a zinger at the bookstore last night...
Edited on Tue Jul-20-04 02:20 PM by Richardo
Group of us were standing around the Current Events table and one of the booksellers noticed this book:

Another colleague says: "They think Carter is the worst ex-President?"

I said: "Well, only until 2005."

All I got at first were a few puzzled looks until the dawn finally broke, along with a few grins. Sweet! :)

3. I'm glad someone finally called Carter out...
That guy's had it too good for too long. He thinks he's some goody-two-shoes, always building houses for poor people and prancing around with his Nobel Peace Prize. "Oooohh, look at me, I'm Jimmy Carter and I won the Nobel Peace Prize, nyah nyah nyah. I think I'm too good to join the PNAC because I'm a dirty hippie peanut farmer, yada yada yada."

Prick.

Why doesn't he act more like Poppy. You know, stuff like giving speeches for millions of dollars and defense contractin'. Where would we be without Carlyle? Because if there's one thing the world could use a lot more of, it's weapons to fight(and sell to)the godless hordes. Carter can bite me.

5. I know, it makes me sick.
Living out your religion - pah! He should just go to a nice church and PRETEND to be a Christian like everyone else. What's he think he is, some kinda saint or something? All that Habitat for Humanity crap, building houses for the poor and being a spokesman for humanity, blah, blah, blah. Religion should be private, except when you want to keep gays from gettin' married and all that icky homosexual stuff.

Everyone knows Jimmy Cartner doesn't belong to the right church and is going straight to hell for being a Democrat anyway.

6. That bum Carter!
I mean all he's done for the last 25 years is build houses for the poor???

But seriously, I can't think of any ex-president who has done more charity work than Jimmy Carter. Hopefully Clinton can carry on his legacy with the AIDS relief work he has been doing.

11. Don't forget, he didn't just put undeserving poor people
into homes of their own when they didn't even plan well enough to have rich parents, he also has been seen prancing around the world helping to broker peace between adversaries!

And, he also has interfered in elections to make sure they were fairly conducted! I mean, what? How in the world would we have gotten our current leader if Jimmy Carter had been looking at our election processes?

What a do-gooder.

;-)

It's fabulous!

I LOVE Carter. He is a true class act. Very Kind and caring of others.

He makes me proud to be an American. He is a fine elder statesman.

14. Another true story from the bookstore where I work.
Last Saturday someone was looking at our sidelines, the little odds and ends that inspire impulse purchases and don't really fit on the bookshelf. Well, we have a lot of political stuff, and much of it is anti-Bush (Yes, we're an independent bookstore). Someone picked up one of the George W. Bush decks of cards and said something like, "It's not a full one, is it?"

One of my favorite summer customers came in. His first question was where could he pick up Air America. He's an older gent & I don't think he goes on line so I didn't suggest he stop by here.

16. Why do those people have such a hatred for Carter?
I don't get it. I can't remember him doing something that would particularly antagonize the RW (you know, like getting a blow job).

21. Because he didn't start a nuclear war like he was supposed to!
Carter was SUPPOSED to bring about the Rapture so that all the true believers could see Jeezus and go up in the middle of the air! And Carter dind't do it, but instead he let the godless commies keep going instead of killing them all, because Carter is a devil-worshipper!
Something like that, I'm sure.

24. Put human rights into international relations
Before Carter, human rights were only given lip service in international relations. Carter pushed the idea that soverignity should not be a cover for genocide or other human rights violations.

Thinking like that pisses off the right wingers.
