As many of you know, Elad is our technical guy. He does all the programming for DU, he deals with our web servers, he squashes bugs, and he even logs on in the middle of the night when the site crashes. His job is not glamorous, but it's vitally important.

But the thing about his job is this: When he does his job right, nobody notices. People only notice his job when something screws up. But when things go well, nobody is supposed to notice.

Today he did something... And nobody noticed at all. :)

We upgraded our web servers today. No downtime. None. Zilch. Nada. You probably wouldn't have noticed it if I weren't telling you right now.

Yesterday, we had two computers. Today, we have three. This will make a HUGE difference in our ability to handle high traffic. This should put an end to the mid-afternoon slowdowns that have plagued us for the last month or so, or at least make them much less frequent. We hope that our current setup will be enough to handle increased traffic through to election day.

Unfortunately, we still have a few database bugs that we need to squash. This hardware upgrade won't fix those. But the upgrade should make DU much faster for everyone, and that's a good thing.
