I need suggestions on how to protest in front of my ex-College
To make a long story short I was kicked out for good today.

I am on disability and they never provided wheel chair ramps or any assistance that was needed to function in College.

I want to protest at the College and i know that I will be alone but how do I do it.

How can I get a permit and do I call the media so that they can interview me?

I need suggestions please.

1. If you have grounds for a suit, get an attorney
He or she can hook you up with the media, if it's to your advantage.

2. Don't do that. Get a lawyer
Getting a lawyer shows the bureaucrats that you are serious and they will have to take you seriously. You hold a 1 man protest in front of the university and the suits will just walk right by you and go about their business.

3. Also
Try contacting your university's newspaper and see if they'd like to hear your story. Papers are suckers for David vs. Goliath stories. If that does not work, try a local paper.

May I ask what university this is? Could you PM it to me?

5. see, here's your problem

you're thinking of getting a permit? forget that. If you really want to protest, type up a short press release saying what you are doing. Call your localconsumer advocate reporter. Call the paper. call your local orgaanisation for disabled people. And then show up and hold up a sign, or do what you will (no property damage, ok?) get yourself arrested. make them haul off a disabled person who can't get access.

and then get thee a lawyer.

on edit:
hold it, I just read your other thread. this place takes attendance? an Ivy League that takes attendance? baloney. I went through four years of college (not ivy, baby ivy) and am finishing up the first year of grad school and I have never had someone take attendance. what's the real story?

6. What kind of a charge do they give you for protesting?
Where do I get the phone numbers of advocates?

7. trespassing. disobeying a lawful order
that type of thing. Before I spend more time on this, I want to know more. why didn't you fufill your obligations under your readmittance agreement? did you attend the required tutoring sessions? why do they take attendance?

I'm not questioning your story here, but before you play with the big boys, you better get your ducks in a row.

10. I was told since I was at a A level I didn't need tutoring sessions
Edited on Wed Jul-21-04 12:43 AM by Bushneedstogo
Also, In the tutoring office a person made fun of me one time because I can't talk right and she told me to speak up and I did and she still said that I can't understand you which intimadiated me in that room. I didn't need the tutoring because I took tests and did my homework and I was at a A level.

I have no Idea why they started taking attendance on everyone and they just implimented a hotline a few months back.

They told me that they would take care of me because they knew that I needed a wheelchair ramp or an elevator to get up and down to the second floor. At first they allowed me to use the elevator where they toss the garbage out through and the teachers use it but there were times when it wasn't working and no one was around to allow me to use it which meant sitting down on the stairs and dragging everything up and down them in order to attend class.

The readmittance agreement said that I would keep up with my classes and attend them. It didn't say how many times that I should attend them it just said that I needed to keep up.

I kept up with an A level on the tests and homework and I wasn't behind.

The college added my last two classes when I was in the meeting and they told me that i could change the times on my two classes that they gave me but when I went to change the time they wouldn't do it.

Each class was 4 hours apart on the same days of the week which meant that I had a break 3 times each day.

When I went to switch classes they kicked me out.

11. I only ask since in your previous thread
you mentioned that part of your readmittance agreement was to attend tutoring sessions. If that was the case and you chose not to go, you're SOL, I'm afraid. if it's not the case, get your story straight.

13. Do you attend turtoring if you don't need it?
If you are a 4.0 average and your getting all A's do you still attend tutoring sessions?

15. if they say "you will attend tutoring, or you will be expelled"
then yes, I attend tutoring. If they tell me "you will wear yellow or we will expell you" I'm buying a lot of yellow. stupid rules, but if I agreed to them, I'm on the hook to follow them. By accepting their admission, you agreed to play by their rules (and you knew what those rules were)

sorry, I think you're out of luck here, the place doesn't sound to helpful. What state are we talking here?

12. They just started taking attendance a few months back

They even implimented an attendance hotline and if you are late more then 5 mins you are counted absent.

This was the load of shit part.

I am not sure if all Colleges have started doing this but the one I attend has a hotline and everything and you have to call it or else.

16. I really want to know what school this is
I'll make a deal with you, if you are uncomfortable posting it publically, PM me. in exchange, as the resident skeptic, I will confirm for the people on this thread who might be interested that this policy exists. I will not share the name of the school with anyone without your permission.

disclosure, I volunteer as a college counselor for high schoolers and I want to know so I never reccomened this place to anyone. help me out, help me make sure other people aren't in your situation.

19. Good idea for timing - but talk to a lawyer first...you might have a good
case and you want to make sure you also win in the court of public opinion....you don't want anything being used against you later....
