Today Would've Been Paul Wellstone's 60th Birthday...

Today, July 21st, 2004, would have been Senator Paul Wellstone's 60th birthday. Instead of celebration, we mourn still because of the tragic loss of his young life cut short too soon. But, where ever you are Paul, whether it be next to God in heaven watching over us all or walking among us in spirit, we wish you were here with us to celebrate what should have been a joyous occasion. Happy Birthday, Senator Wellstone. We miss you so dearly.

3. Thanks for the reminder.
I just checked my sig-line and the link still works. It runs 4 1/2 hours, but it's easy to navigate. If you haven't enough time to view the entire video, skip to the last part (Paul Wellstone (1944-2002)).

4. I have seen it several times. Thank you though
more people need to see it...despite the "controversy" that the right-wingers in the media tagged onto it, it was very moving and definitely worth a view. Warning: if you're like me, you'll need a box of tissues.

9. I like the union avatar...
...which one are you with? (I'm a member of the Writers Union; my husband is a union carpenter.)

I was about 100 months pregnant when my husband and I went to the memorial on October 29. The next day, our daughter was born, and we gave her "Paul" as a middle name.

14. I'm retired now,
but I've been an active member of Marine Engineers Beneficial Association (http://www.d1meba.org/) from 1964 to 2000 (when I retired). I started going to sea in 1946, but I hadn't sat for my marine engineers licence till much later. I remain active by participting at union meetings, as well as union-related internet groups.

I'm also active in the local labor community, particularly with Jobs with Justice (http://www.wsjwj.org/home/home_default.asp).

5. We lost a great patriot, role model and hero in Paul Wellstone
He was one of those people whose presence was such that you could always go to bed at night still knowing that there were men of honor, integrity, courage, valor, honesty, decency and bravery still in politics.

We all miss you immensely Paul. And we miss those who perished with you. Together you all sought to provide the foundations for a better world where compassion, integrity and social justice reigned supreme. May we continue to honor, cherish and advance the principles and beliefs that you represented and promoted during your lifetime

6. If only Wellstone were the nominee today
We would be headed toward a new America.
I was so devastated when he died I felt like giving up on politics and activism. There are so few like him and I almost lost hope. After a few days I finally decided that the world needed a whole new army of Paul Wellstones and dedicated myself to being one of those.

7. I know what you mean
It took me until at least January to completely get over the shock. It was just like politics weren't worth it. Cause when he would've won I wanted move to Minnesota, work the campaign next time around if he decided to run again and maybe a presidential campaign.

Very funny, creative work (the video using cartoons drawn in the dust on the windows of his campaign bus are pure genius!). Press the "Click to enlarge" link.

The good they die young. We're on the "virtual bus" now but we're going to take back our country Senator, you can count on that.
