Poll question: When did the 2004 Cubs Jump the Shark?
A. July 20th vs. Cards - Cubs closer LaTroy Hawkins went down kicking and screaming Tuesday afternoon after imploding in the ninth inning of a devastating 11-8 at Wrigley Field. The Cubs go 10 back of the Cardinals.

B. July 19th vs. Cards - The Cubs drop a 5-4 game to St. Louis, while Carlos Zambrano's antics nearly led to a bench-clearing incident between the two rivals.

C. July 16th vs. Brewers - The Cubs commit mental and physical gaffes in a 3-2 loss that saddled Matt Clement (7-9) with his fifth straight defeat.

D. June 23rd at St. Louis - Barrett is ejected in the eighth inning. Moments later Barrett's replacement, Paul Bako, allows a passes ball giving the Cards another come from behind victory.

E. May 19th - Sammy Sosa goes on 15-day DL because of a back injury he suffers after sneezing.

F. May 7th - Mark Prior goes on 60 day DL.

G. Febuary 11th - Cubs sign reliever Kyle "The Farns" Farnsworth to a one-year deal.

1. The Fonz started warming up on May 7.
He was getting up to speed on May 19.

He turned toward the pool on June 23.

He hit the ramp on July 16.

He cleared the shark on July 19.

He hit the ramp on the other side July 20.

2. That sums it up rather nicely.
The game yesterday was really embarrassing. F*ckin' Prima Donnas.

Can't wait to see what the League does to Hawkins.

3. I had written that game off.
I had already thought, "Eight games in July isn't so bad". Imagine my shock.

9. I couldn't believe that game yesterday...
I started channel surfing at the end of the 2nd inning - couldn't believe it when I switched back in the 6th and watched it until the end.

GO CARDS!!!!!

4. I totally forgot that the Cubs got Hawkins...
He's much better as a 7th and 8th inning pitcher. He was never good for the Twins in the 9th.
That's why we had Eddie. (Who we traded as well)

6. so, they do their August swoon in july
what's new? The tribCo really doesn't get it when it comes to curses. Simply paying off a relative to bring in a goat doesn't cut it. They need an entire team of spell casters to fix the problem.

The southside team will be falling apart any day now, too.

7. Usually it's the "June Swoon".
By August it's a foregone conclusion.

10. No doubt it was June 23rd.
They still have a chance to limp into the wild card, though.

11. That's how I feel.
Bako got charged with a Passed Ball, but Farnsworth crossed him up I believe.

In any case, it was a miserable effort in crunch time. It really typifies the whole season.

I too, voted for 6/23.

12. Same here...

It wasn't anything specific, just a culmination of things, and after the end of that game I thought to myself that this had become an established pattern ... and it has.

They could still get the wild card, but that'll probably mean facing off against St. Louis. And, I think they've already shown they can't win a series against the Cards this year.

13. A wild card team cannot play a team from the same division in the
first round of the playoffs. Now...later in the playoffs, sure. But not in the first round.

15. I did not know that...

I'm not a big fan of the current playoff system, and I guess I've never bothered to keep up with its rules.
