But so what if it is? If someone interests you, respond to their post, or send an e-mail.

|
either. I've never looked at anyone else's, so I guess I just don't think about it. Does the profile actually matter to people here?
(Obviously, I'm new at DU.)

But there are still things that I kinda go..."Umm....what the cheney does that mean?" I expect that will clear up eventually.
Some folks seem a bit over the top, but I'm sure I seem that way to some of them too, so there ya go. Basically, being able to trade ideas with a huge group of lefty political geeks who like to argue.. it's a little slice of geek-heaven for someone like me.

I don't have a problem with people who block their profiles because I have gotten the impression that some, perhaps many, posters in this forum are very high profile professionals who have a need to protect their privacy.

I don't like being pidgeon-holed, categorised or slotted into an argument based on my gender, my age, my causes. There are a lot of good and valid reasons to keep one's personal information on the down-lo.

20. Some people just like more |
|
privacy than others. I don't see where there is anything bad about that. I've also had some very unpleasant experiences on other message boards where I had a public profile so now I tend to be more cautious, especially if I have not been with a message board for long.

Argue? Piss people off? Subvert democracy? Oh no wait.. they can do all that on Fox. I haven't actually seen a lot of neo-con-esque commentary here. Come to think of it - I don't recall seeing any at all. These guys must be behaving themselves or hiding.

29. why worry about blocked profiles when sn's give trolls away |

in the majority of instances.
Trolls can't resist using screen names they think are clever...their egos won't allow it.

but bemused is more like it. I just think it's wierd. I know quite a few people personally who just lurk and never post to any group, block all email, and act all paranoid as hell. Other than that, most of them are fairly normal.
There are a few people who have been stalked, some others have good reasons to hide their identities. But, since we can control what's in our profiles, why hide them?

|
Edited on Wed Jul-21-04 02:40 PM by Caution
gimme a break. i *respect* other people's privacy. I have a right to my privacy and if i choose to exercise that right I will do so and I would think that people here would respect that right just like they would expect the government to respect that right without casting a cloud of suspicion over those who choose to exercise it.
Edit: I also choose to exercise my right to post in run on sentences!
