My chimney swifts are getting ready to leave the nest...

Every night now, around twilight, they put on quite the aerobatics display, flying their little hearts out. I swear, some of them aren't much bigger than large moths. What's amazing to me is how many there are. I knew we had more than a couple, based on the crazy bouts of sustained chirping we've come to expect from our fireplace, but there must be about 20 of these little birdies, swarming and flitting and regrouping up on our roof.

I can't help but feel proud of them, and what they've accomplished over the last month or so, and I confess I'm going to miss their incessant chatter. I won't miss that bonking sound they made when falling off the chimney onto our window ledges, tho.
