1. Other:
I've always felt Star Wars was vastly overrated, but the series went from "average" to "fucking terrible" after Episodes 1 and 2.

Actually - you're probably right. Compare Episode IV to Blade Runner and the differences are glaring. Ridley Scott can make a movie!

85. Well, yes, but always respectfully...
I'm not sure "smitten" is the best choice of words, so let's go with "smote" - I'm still around, though ;)

...you're the most reasonable person I've disagreed with here so far.

My idea of entertaining movie fare is modern-day babes, martial arts and explosions, not space-age cowboys and indians :)

Kidding aside, I admit that my tastes in music and movies are very narrow, but I honestly still don't see the appeal of Star Wars.

15. I like the storyline and mythology...
behind the Star Wars saga. It would make for a good Sci-fi role-playing game, but the movies s*ck. The first two moves were ok, but everything after that was purely created for marketing, a big disappointment.

2. Lucas: once a hack, always a hack
Think about it. He only ever directed 2 films before he did the New Star Wars prequels ; American Graffiti and Star Wars. Let's say they were flukes. After all the best of the original Star Wars was Empire Strikes Back and Lucas didn't direct that.

He should have hired a REAL director to do the prequels.

Edited on Thu Jul-22-04 06:02 PM by ChavezSpeakstheTruth
We'll call them : Kid Goulash, Gezpacho Boy and South of the Border Paul. The three of us were in a cover band in highschool but Kid Goulash (RKZ) was a drummer and SBP was a guitarist - I just sang. I was more of a visual artist. In fact that's what I was known for then. The 2 of them pursued their music together until last year when RKZ moved to Chicago. The 2 of them had gone to New Orleans and then Nashville (where SBP remains). They had a band called the 8th grade http://www.the8thgrade.com . I went to art school in NYC. I'm now a graphic designer who is trying to get back to the city and start a career as a painter. Whew!

84. love these veggie nicknames!
I love to hear stories about people's musical pasts. It is very interesting.

I was a drummer in my bands.. mostly male/female power poppy/ arty?quirky stuff. I played in bands for about 15 years. I was the only one who was willing to play drums, since everyone else wanted to play guitar of course! We made a few CDS on our own, one with Kramer, toured a bit, once played at the Knitting Factory ( that was really cool). I am taking drum lessons now since I am pretty much self-taught. I miss playing with others, since I haven't been able to play really since my kid was born. I am hoping to find some people here to play with occasionally, since I really miss it.

I remember my Dad taking me and he hardly ever took me to movies, or anywhere really. I loved it, partly because it seemed so unique and modern and partly because I enjoyed sharing the experience with my Dad. The second one I liked but not as well, and I don't even remember the third.

I think they're really kid movies, and doubt Lucas would disagree. Once I grew up a bit I lost interest. I've never seen the prequels and have no desire to.

Say what you will about TPM and AOTC, but the insipid Return of the Jedi makes the prequels look like the friggin' Godfather films.

Star Wars and The Empire Strikes Back are two of the greatest movies ever made--but the Holy Trilogy label is false.

80. I agree, those stupid Ewoks and the endless repetition of "Destiny".
Sickened me. Empire is the best movie of them all. I didn't even bother to see the new ones.

77. Anything that defames Star Wars (including itself) has my full support.

Specifically, all of the Star Wars movies are bad.

83. The new episodes suck, he updated the old ones, and he screwed with
E.T. as well.

G.L. Phone Home and GO HOME!

Though the re-introduction of filmed gore when Luke was held captive by the snow monster was nice. (the updated effects weren't all that great, it was a video game, and it looked as if Leia and Lando were running OUTSIDE in a scene that was originally made for them to be running INSIDE. Made no sense... Maybe the Special Special Edition coming out in September fixes this... As well as having Luke say "LEIA!!" after he gets out of the X-Wing after he blows up the Death Star instead of yelling "CARRIE!!" in the first (fourth) one!

86. why did this come up today?
Are they releasing some special Star Wars DVD?

That said, the first 2 movies were great, Return of the Jedi was ok and the last two "prequels" pretty much sucked.

I was born in late '66, so I was 10 1/2 when the original Star Wars came out, 13 1/2 for the second one and 16 1/2 for Return in 1983 and I loved Princess Leia in that metal bikini.
