...but they do a lot of good as well:
About the AARP Foundation The AARP Foundation is the Association’s affiliated charity. Foundation programs provide security, protection and empowerment for older persons in need. Among the programs the Foundation administers are: Tax-Aide, Senior Community Service Employment Program (SCSEP) and Money Management Program. The Foundation’s litigation staff protects the legal rights of older Americans in critical health, long-term care, and consumer and employment situations. Additional programs provide information, education and services to ensure that people over 50 lead lives with independence, dignity and purpose. Foundation programs and litigation work are funded by grants, tax deductible contributions and AARP.
As AARP's affiliated charity our mission is crucial. We lead positive social change to help people 50 and older, especially the most vulnerable, by delivering information, education and direct service to communities and families. Our programs could benefit you, your family, your friends and your neighbors when they are needed the most.
The rapid growth in our aging population presents new challenges. Many of our elderly are not prepared for their changing needs and face the loss of friends and family, unexpected physical challenges, dramatically reduced incomes—often alone and with inadequate emotional or financial support. Families are forced to make critical decisions about caring for a loved one under pressure, with little time, limited means or not enough information or help.
But older adults in need do not have to live this way. In partnership with caring and concerned people like you, the AARP Foundation is working to help more Americans age with independence, dignity and purpose. Since its founding in 1961, the AARP Foundation has provided a variety of vital programs and services throughout our country with a common goal: to improve the experience of aging in America and to protect the most vulnerable of our elderly. We are proud that we have helped millions of older Americans and their families.
