I'm Getting Old - I Mailed in My AARP Membership This Morning
At 51, I'm eligible to join. And they offer member discounts on car/home insurance, hotel rooms, etc.

1. You should have joined AAA instead
Better discounts and they didn't sell their membership out to Bush and the rethug gang like during the Medicare fiasco

5. They Were Wrong There....

...but they do a lot of good as well:

About the AARP Foundation

The AARP Foundation is the Association’s affiliated charity. Foundation programs provide security, protection and empowerment for older persons in need. Among the programs the Foundation administers are: Tax-Aide, Senior Community Service Employment Program (SCSEP) and Money Management Program. The Foundation’s litigation staff protects the legal rights of older Americans in critical health, long-term care, and consumer and employment situations. Additional programs provide information, education and services to ensure that people over 50 lead lives with independence, dignity and purpose. Foundation programs and litigation work are funded by grants, tax deductible contributions and AARP.

As AARP's affiliated charity our mission is crucial. We lead positive social change to help people 50 and older, especially the most vulnerable, by delivering information, education and direct service to communities and families. Our programs could benefit you, your family, your friends and your neighbors when they are needed the most.

The rapid growth in our aging population presents new challenges. Many of our elderly are not prepared for their changing needs and face the loss of friends and family, unexpected physical challenges, dramatically reduced incomes—often alone and with inadequate emotional or financial support. Families are forced to make critical decisions about caring for a loved one under pressure, with little time, limited means or not enough information or help.

But older adults in need do not have to live this way. In partnership with caring and concerned people like you, the AARP Foundation is working to help more Americans age with independence, dignity and purpose. Since its founding in 1961, the AARP Foundation has provided a variety of vital programs and services throughout our country with a common goal: to improve the experience of aging in America and to protect the most vulnerable of our elderly. We are proud that we have helped millions of older Americans and their families.

10. I'm NOT joining.......
My husband is already a member, that is until renewal time, then it's splitsville for him too. I stayed up until 2:00am watching that stupid vote for the Medicare bill. I went to bed thinking well, this isn't going to pass, and lo and behold when I got up the next day THE DAMN THING HAD PAST!!! So no, I'm not joining AARP. Screw their discounts.

11. You might rethink that
My aunt kept them and was hospitalized awhile back for close to a week. Guess how much they paid on her bill? 5 BUCKS!!! I kid you not. She paid more in membership dues than they've paid on her medical bills all year.

12. I'm Only 51, and Still Work
I have medical coverage through my employer. That won't be a factor for me for at least 14 years.

13. AARP ultraright:try LW assoc.Retired Amers
Head of aarp wrote the intro to book by the little nazi who led the "92 Contract with America... Gingrich, Newt.

Head of aarp is something like Coselli???.... forget his name.
He has been a RW activist for decades.

Dont be fooled by them signing the SECRETARY of aarp on the headings. Coselli is still the prez of aarp, as of last week.

We here at DU all fled and joined other groups.. i think the best is named something like Assooc. of Retired Americans... or R A Associa. It has Retired and has Americans in the name.

aarp is ruined, as they planned. so build up the other group, or you will be helping the Repubs. with your money.
