A little rant about work
Ok. So. I sent out a data request to some folks in my agency about 2 weeks ago. They were people who we have NEVER hit up for info before. Anyway, the deadline comes and goes and my boss has me send out reminders to the people who haven't sent in their data yet...copied to their bosses. You would think from the whining via email today that we asked them to sacrifice their first-born child. Bunch of whiny babies. :eyes:

And I gotta go home and grab my hip waders to slog through the bullshit answers. If I have one more person whine that they "already faxed it" I'm gonna hit them on the head with a shovel. It's not like gremilns came and stole it off of the fax machine. If they would spend the time they spend whining on actually finding the data we want...they would have been done by the freakin' deadline.

ARGH!!!

Just wanted to vent for a second. We now return to your regularly scheduled programming.

1. Screw 'em...I hate having to get bosses involved, but...
...do your damned job and we won't have these issues.

You and I need new jobs. I applied for one...closes Monday.

13. Yeah, 'cause I SO have time for that...
while I do the data entry for the other 109 files that the other people seemed perfectly capable of faxing in without adult supervision. I don't THINK so. :P

6. I hate the people I work with.....
well, maybe not hate, just intensely dislike too many of the people I work with.

Go ahead, vent away! People can be so annoying and frustrating. :)

8. I go back and forth...
about the people I work with. Some of them I like ok...others I want to hit on the head with a shovel. The problem with the people I'm currently dealing with is that they are spread out in district offices and almost never have to deal with people from central office. I think they're giving me the runaround because they think they can. They are going to get a nasty surprise when their boss's boss finds out they were not helpful to my department.

14. Ah, not getting back to you with information. I feel your pain
Scene 1: Senior management wants to reduce money spent on high-speed printing. Tell people in the printing areas to work on it. Print areas contact end users to see if they can help them reduce their costs by eliminating unnecessary paper work. No responses.

Scene 2: Senior management notices printing costs have not gone down. Talk to print areas again. Minor print services peon (me) suggests they work with management in the areas that are actually ordering the print since (a)their users control what we print and (b)managers might be more motivated to cut costs than low-level end users. Tepid response.

Scene 3: Business unit wants to be able to request checks at 1 PM and have them printed and mailed out that day enclosed with documents that (mysteriously) are produced on their personal printers. Sure, we can do that. But we only have one check printer, so we need a backup plan in case that printer goes down. Send me some basic information and I will work with another print site and mailroom to develop a plan for printing your checks at another location as a backup so your checks will never be delayed by a hardware problem. That was over a year ago. Still no response.

16. Sounds stunningly familiar
I feel your pain.

The only thing that keeps me laughing at my current situation is I know the REAL reason they haven't sent the data yet. It's because they can't find it...because they do shitty filing. When I send you the name and ID number for the file I want and you still can't find it after 2 weeks...Houston, we have a problem.

17. Oh my GAWD...
then you must be the ONLY person in my agency who keeps the files I requested on their computer instead of doing them manually.

Forget faxing them to me...not only am I letting you off the hook...you will be singled out and praised BY NAME in the audit report and I'm nominating you for Employee of the Year. ;)

18. Wait-They don't keep them on their pooters?
What, nobody uses "Excel", or "Word" or hell, if it's that archaic an office, even "Lotus 1-2-3" to keep track of shit?

Even an old Luddite like me keeps the work shit in the pooter. I even have "permission" to go change things in Schedule-ALL...

19. Not really...no
Some of them fill out the form on the puter then print it out and put it in the file and then DON'T SAVE IT. Either that or they print out the form and fill it out BY HAND. Stunning, isn't it? *sigh*

20. Good lord. Sounds like 1984, not 2004.
So they type it on their computer, print it out, fax it to you, and you type it back into a computer?

21. Not exactly
They type it out (or print it out and fill it out by hand) and then it goes in the youth's Masterfile. Where it sits until the youth is released. They're just all in a tizzy because someone came along and wanted to SEE the document for the first time EVER. *gasp* And now they have to prove that they've been doing their job. *shudder* The horror.
