Poll question: Least favorite geographically-named band
Edited on Thu Jul-22-04 04:01 PM by undisclosedlocation
Feel free to chime in with other suggestions, particularly any from the period after 1988 (the year it is generally agreed that I checked out from popular culture). I definitely need to replace some of these; one-hit wonder Nantucket is particularly weak. (EDIT: Replaced them with Asia; it was the heat of the moment)

Alternately, you might embrace some of these also-rans, some of whom fell by the wayside because only part of their names are geographical in nature (Southside Johnny & the Asbury Jukes, Amboy Dukes, Bay City Rollers, LA Guns, Texas Tornados, Oak Ridge Boys, Manhattan Transfer, Ozark Mountain Daredevils, Whitney Houston); two because they represent geographical features (Mountain, Oasis); and one, though they represent only mythological geography, is so hated here that I almost put them on anyway (Styx). Anyway, go to; I'll try to check in within the hour to make any changes that seem appropriate at that time.

If the tone is too negative for you, instead reply below with your favorite of these. (See, I'm nice!:))

1. Alabama
And I live in Alabama... less than an hour from Fort Payne, the home of the band.

I had to hear their insipid country swill everywhere I turned for most of the 80's!

Still, they did do a duet with Jann Arden, but she swears she was off her meds when that happened.

11. What about Asia ...
Huge mucisians who tried to sell out with pop tunes.

I liked Asia when they first came out, but I think it is crap now.

Cheers

17. All for Satan In America!!
That's what the right wing preachers used to say "ASIA" was an abbreviation for. Somehow, I think Satan was insulted :evilfrown:

Europe: Pure artery clogging Velveeta ballads for the people who thought Poison was too hardcore.

22. I wish that I could claim it, but it's not mine
it was coined by two college DJs in the midwest.
Perfect coinage, isn't it? :)
