Sympathy for the Devil: The Movie
Edited on Thu Jul-22-04 08:03 PM by Old and In the Way
Whoa folks....if you get a chance you have to get/rent this movie.

A buddy of mine got it as a recent birthday present from his sister-in-law up in Canada...who got the DVD from a lawn sale.

Anyway, what a great movie. Hope you like the tune because this is the studio work that went into creating it (circa 68/69?). It opens with Jagger and Brian Jones figuring the chords out, all the way through to the finished product. It's amazing to see a young Charlie Watts playing a tom-tom to set that rhythym sound up....and the guys doing the "whoo-whooo" thing together.

I'm guessing, but I don't know for sure, that Mickey Hopkins is playing piano on that recording. Sure has his signature (for NRPS fans). They never give the pianist credit, though.

Keith Richards was brilliant in the studio.....and did some neat base work on it too.

The music is oddly interspersed with revolutionary 1 act plays...very avant garde....lots of "strange" narrative overlaid. This was a Jean Luc Goddard film....I think around 1970. What a great DVD....
