Don't argue Religion, Politics and Music
I always add music to the politics and religion no-no's. Sometimes I think music is more personal than the other two. With me it is anyway, but I stay away from the music arguements...people can get pissed.
Any thoughts?

1. I only get truly upset when people relegate Country music to freeper
music. I grew up in a family politically divided, but all country music (the classic stuff) lovers. My grandfather was a staunch Democrat and a Waylon, Merle, Vern fan his whole life. That is the only time I ever get a bit ruffled. :hi:

Well that, and when people crap on John Denver. The man had tremendous talent, and it's a shame he is gone.

3. I like John Denver too
They just reran that movie about his life the other day on CMT. I listen to some country and I also realize that there is some that I don't really like too much. Just like any other genre of music I guess.

5. Three words. Johnny. F*cking. Cash.
One of the greatest musicians America has ever produced. And this comes from someone who isn't a country "fan" at all. But the late "Man in Black" was just otherwordly. His songwriting, singing, and plain old way with a song was a Hailey's Comet sort of thing--once in a lifetime.

And the badass J.C. wasn't no freeper either. A lot of country folks are (George Jones for example, whose voice I love but politics I hate), but good music is good music. And if a piece of country music sounds good, I can easily enjoy it.

8. I've noticed that people take it really personal when...
...somebody "disses" the type of music they like.
I can like someone a lot and still think their taste sucks. :)

9. As a huge music fan..
I only get upset if someone is trying to push his/her taste on me. Otherwise, I don't care if someone says they don't like what I like. Unlike with political arguments, people should just agree to disagree since music is so subjective. Someone's terrible lyric, vocals, or arrangements could be heavenly to someone else. I also wouldn't get upset if someone thinks Britney Spears is the best artist ever.

That's not to say there's no room for debate. Sometimes one artist is clearly more talented than another. However, even though Prince is more talented than Usher, I like Usher's music more overall.

10. I just mean that there are some people who won't discuss it
Some people have a lot of passion for all three and sometimes discussion turns nasty.
I believe that music is very important in our lives and we personalize it with ourselves. If someone says something about some artist or type of music, some people feel it is a personal attack.

11. That's true, but I never understood it
With all the important things in life, I think entertainment shouldn't be so personal.

12. Don't be a wus, stand up for what you believe in, just don't get...
violent. Obviously, you do not have to pick a fight either.

Still, too much of our problems are because we are all afraid to express things that ARE IMPORTANT TOO US ALL. Instead we are trained like sheeple to talk about the color of the sky or Brittany's new husband or other worthless shit and clutter.

Makes me think it's a plan... make them think it's improper to discuss the real issues, give them some kool-aid to swallow instead, and when a sheep does speak up, bray the story of how it was sheared (and by implication, got what it deserved).

FUCK THAT!!
