I live in a one traffic light village

I remember during WW2 (The big one) a war bond selling drive came through our village. It was a really great attraction as the sales pitch was high-lighted by a captured one or two man submarine mounted on a trailer and parked right there by the traffic light. The submarine was either Japanese or German. Traveling with the submarine was a General Clark, I think it was General Mark Clark.

In later years Governor Rockefeller gave a speech right there by that traffic light. Both times traffic through our village came to a complete halt due to all the citizens blocking the street. We did not like that.

A bypass to the main route through the village was added. Controlling traffic at that intersection was a stop sign which everybody in the village ignored unless it was absolutely essential to stop in order to avoid a bump-into. Unfortunately several bad bump-into accidents did happen there because of people ignoring the stop sign.

So one day to everybody's collective horror a traffic light was installed there and the stop sign which everybody ignored was removed. Well it did not take very long to where we citizens were ignoring the traffic light too. The traffic light do-gooders eventually removed the traffic light and put the stop sign back up. To this day we only stop there if absolutely essential, just the same as always.

A few years ago we were again greatly distressed when it became legal to turn right on red at our traffic light. Even today many of us will not do that. It just does not seem right to change our ways.

2. Yes there is at least one Model T in the village.

We arrived in the village in a later model Ford the 'Model A'. Dad made a portable electric welder out of the Model A frame and engine.. He pushed the body off the cliff into Lake Erie. It is still on the bottom of Lake Erie. Every now and then sports divers report finding it. I never ever reveal my knowledge of it.

3. Oh boy, someone else who remembers WW2. I now

live in a one-light traffic light town and they do roll up the sidewalks at 5:00 p.m.

4. During the summer

there are "Free to the public" concerts in the park at the gazebo usually on Thursday evenings. I attended one ten or twelve years ago. A little old lady playing a string instrument made out of a discarded toilet seat was the center piece of the group.

Some of the other concerts are not that good.

I lived for a while in Ramer, Tennesee and Sheffield, Alabama before world war two. A different world it was.

5. "Some of the other concerts aren't that good"

I've got one traffic light up on you, we have two with a left turn arrow at the main one, which I regularly run because it never changes.
