Pheeeeew! hot hot HOT! 102 degrees today.

OK, so I'm sure some of you in Arizona, or SoCal are thinking "it's like that every day here." Maybe, but where you are you've got airconditioners in every home and pools in every backyard. Western Oregon just isn't meant to get this hot.

I've got a bottle of solvent on my workbench at a full boil. And it's just sitting there in its bottle. If I disappear, don't worry, it just means I exploded.

2. Good grief!
We often get very hot this time of the year but this year has been cool. Does Oregon ever get that hot or is it just early for that? We did hit 100 on Tuesday and with the humidity it was a heat index of 108. The latex label on my work gloves melted when I was working on the farm. I did not know until I went to the feed store and they laughed. I had green latex smeared all over my face from wiping the sweat off my face. Watch that solvent!

4. It's very early.
We might hit a hundred here for a couple of days in late august.

Usually it's in the low eighties this time of year.

3. Hello, it is currently hovering near 70 in Chicagoland.
Believe me, well below normal. Weird thing is, this summer has been quite cool so far. No strings of 90 degree and unbearably muggy days thus far. I hope it stays that way.

But my yard is very hot.

I love it when my cats get mad at me and yell because of the heat. It's because I control the weather, you know.

19. Yep. Mine is doing some random kvetching, too.
But I've taken to storing his tins of food in the fridge and I put a towel in the freezer now and again for him to stretch out on. It's the best I can do.

10. 110 in AZ, First Humid Awful Day....
In July, AZ has a couple of real humid days. We get up at 5 AM to do things around the house before the sun comes out. By 7 AM, we've jumped in the pool at least twice. We stay indoors between the hours of 11 AM and 4 PM. This humidity is awful but we love the hot weather and the outdoors in our beautiful backyad. Come on over.

12. Tstorms and hail here. 57, 20 MPH winds out of the ESE in Colorado
Rain was coming in at a 45 degree angle earlier, but it's calmed down now.

Supposed to do this all weekend, but we need the water. We're still 2 inches shy of our normal YTD rainfall.

I live in Seattle, in Montlake. My front yard is always hot, but this was ridiculous.

I have no a/c and my house is filled with skylights. I'm SO HOT.

21. That's scorching for western Oregon!
It's 102 down here in the Mojave Desert today; a moderate temp for this time of year. My swamp cooler is working hard. Find a shady spot and wait it out, if you can. It can't last too long.

Whatever you do, just don't send the heatwave down to us.

22. Thanks for the warning.
I've been inside my air conditioned office all day.

Another hour and I have to get in my sealed-up non-air conditioned car and hit the Beltline heading for Coburg! Not looking forward to it.

23. Well it’s 91° humidity: 50% heat index 98°. East Texas
Can’t complain this is actually moderate compared to August temps.

YOU KNOW YOU'RE IN TEXAS WHEN

You no longer associate bridges with water.

You can say 110 degrees without fainting.

You eat hot chilies to cool your mouth off.

You can make instant sun tea.

You learn that a seat belt makes a pretty good branding iron.

The temperature drops below 95 and you feel a bit chilly.

You discover that in July it takes only two fingers to drive your car.

You discover that you can get a sunburn through your car window.

You know the best parking place is determined by shade instead of distance.

Hot water comes out of both taps.

You actually burn your hand opening the car door.

No one would dream of putting vinyl upholstery in a car or not having air conditioning.

You break a sweat the instant you step outside at 7:30 a.m. before work.

You realize asphalt has a liquid state.

It's so hot the birds have to use pot holders to pull worms out of the ground.

It's so hot that potatoes cook underground and all you have to do for lunch is to pull one out and add butter with trimmings.

It's so hot farmers are feeding their chickens crushed ice to keep them from laying hard boiled eggs.
