I just electrocuted myself on coaxial cable!! |
|
I didn't even know that was possible, but I swapped out a what I thought was a bad spitter for a good one, and it sparked and zapped and now my arm is all tingly and my fingers hurt, just like it did that one time our hapless business manager tried to kill me by rewiring the waxer at the old newspaper office (ZAP!)
(The good news? My Internet connection is somewhat working again.)

1. Next time don't pee on the cable. |
|
Urine just isn't a very good conductor anyway.

If not, I'd check for some shorts.

Doesn't appear to be shorted out or anything...my hands were a bit sweaty, though, so I'm thinking that had something to do with it.

6. I've been shocked plenty of times while moving my cable box around. |
|
Touching the inner "male" portion of the coax seems to pack a good jolt.

11. that should NOT happen! |
|
This is weird. Two people say they have been shocked on cable coax in this thread! The cable does not carry voltage at the house. And on the cable-trunk at the pole, the small amounts of DC volts that power the amps are filtered out. Even if the filter was bad, the volts should not be high enough to shock. Probably the voltage came from your TV or VCR, which has some sort of problem and your house ground is bad, too, at the same time.

8. you probably have a bad ground on your house |
|
You might want to have your house checked. Either that, or your TV/VCR that was hooked up to the splitter has a bad ground.
