Well, Jerry Goldsmith will not be doing Star Trek XI's score... |
|
Or much of anything else anymore. :-( He died today.
My fav score of his was "Star Trek Insurrection" followed by "Star Trek The Motion Picture".

1. I was very sorry to hear about his death. |

He wrote some great music, particularly the music for Patton. *gets the trumpet motif stuck in his head*

I really like his score for Bakshi's Lord of the Rings. I always liked his stuff.

3. He was one of the last of the great "Old Guard" film music composers... |

...and by that I mean the crew that apprenticed in live radio drama/comedy at the end of that genre's golden age.
Only two remain from that crew I believe:
Elmer Bernstein and Alexander Courage.
John(ny) Williams was from the next generation (no pun intended) that cut it's teeth in the 60s.
Jerry Goldsmith, Bernard Herrmann, Max Steiner and Elmer Bernstein were all absolute giants. (Ennio Morricone was a titan as well, but alas didn't do the American radio/TV thing).
Godspeed Jerry.
