obscure question - that's why i'm asking it here
does anyone know the address of the jack kerouac house in st pete? i live here and don't even know. i'd like to see it.

i figure this is the best place to find the answer to almost any question (except maybe why gore put lieberman on the 2k ticket)

7. 5155 10th Avenue North - and hung at a place called "Beaux Arts"
Edited on Sat Jul-24-04 11:41 AM by papau
Now if you will just tell me if "beat" meant "weary", or was Jazzy new word for "hip"

I mean I loved Manyard and Dobie Gillis, but I never worked that out!

In any case it was in 64 that Kerouac tells Val Duncan of Newsday that he is a Republican and supports Barry Goldwater, following which he sells the sells the Northport home with a farewell party August 26 - moving with his mother a few days later to St. Petersburg, Florida to a new home being built at 5155 10th Avenue North - and hung out at a place called I seem to recall "Beaux Arts" which I am told was a rambling old house off Park Boulevard and is no longer standing. In any case in March 66 Kerouac sells St. Petersburg home and buys a house on Cape Cod at 20 Bristol Avenue in Hyannis.

I'm in Clearwater when I visit the grandkids down there - so the above is learned over coffee in Clearwater - and may be worth what I paid for it!

Then again - it may be true!

:-)

8. Here are some more links, but no addresses
http://www.sun-sentinel.com/travel/getaways/orlando/sfl-beatorlandofeb22,0,1520445.story?coll=sfla-travel-orlando

http://www.westword.com/issues/1998-08-13/feature2.html

Here's a link that includes a TON of links:

http://www.beatmuseum.org/kerouac/jackkerouac.html

...it's GOT to be in there somewhere, or maybe one of the sites has a message board...THAT'S where you'll probably get the answer.

Good Luck.
