DreamWorks to Oversee Live Action Transformers Movie
PAWTUCKET, R.I. -- Toymaker Hasbro's popular Transformers action figures will be seen on the silver screen. DreamWorks film company, co-founded by Steven Spielberg, will oversee the live-action movie, scheduled for release in summer 2006.

"Steven and everyone at DreamWorks are very excited about the prospect of expanding the world of Transformers into the live-action feature film arena. The possibilities for a thrilling action adventure are virtually endless, and a film holds the definite promise of expanding an already worldwide fan base to new audiences," Adam Goodman, DreamWorks head of production, said in a statement Friday.

4. A thrilling(?) action computer generated adventure that revolves around:
Edited on Sat Jul-24-04 12:04 PM by HypnoToad
* A robot that turns into an 18-wheeler semi
* A robot that turns into a handgun
* A robot that turns into a SUV
* A robot that turns into a Dinosaur
* A robot that turns into a tape recorder
* More robots that turn into kid-unfriendly devices that like to be rip-bang violent

Of course, these robots were able to turn into their human-inspired tools that didn't always match their scale, but nobody's perfect...

This isn't live action. It's the latest video game technology on screen. Why should I pay $14 (2006 price) just to watch this?

This is also Spielberg. A dude who puts technology on a pedastal and leaves story and characterizations in the background.

I wonder what other rubbish 1980s commodities they can ressurect from the grave:

Care Bears
Strawberry Shortcake :puke:
Alf
Garbage Pail Kids
The Go-Bots (what the hell!)
Voltron (all three versions, no less)
Ultraman
He-Man :puke:
Thundercats
The Smurfs (they were cool, but they're done.)
The A-Team
Knight Rider (yes, again?)

5. Uh, anybody remember the other Transformers movie?
It was a cartoon, but had a PG rating because they violently killed several of the characters? I think it had the distinction of being Orson Welles last film.

8. I can die happy, now.
A childhood fantasy some true. First there were more Star Wars movies, which I thought I'd never see, then there was a live acion LOTR. Now, live action Transformers.

I think my favorite part of the original movie was seeing Cybertron and the history of the Transformers a little bit more. The series after that was excellent, too, as it was not only more mature, but allowed the viewer to see much more of the back story and the manner in which different "tribes" of transfomers evolved.

Yeah, I'm a geek. :)

9. For ANYONE who thinks this is a good idea
I humbly direct them to the live action Gundam movie.

Robots + live action = The Suck.

I'm an 80s kid, and I made my older sister take me to the Transformers movie way back when. I love Transformers. This is a really bad idea.

What they need to do is get Mainframe to do an all-CG Transformers movie. That would be quite cool.
