Poll question: Who here holds/held public office?
Just curious, no one has to be specific. I'm just obliquely looking at getting a small-town seat, and was wondering who's done it or is doing it and how it's going or went for them. :)

1. no way
But I plan to get in to politics perhaps as a speechwriter, I got a big mouth despite being shy, theres a fine difference between what I want to say and what I should say if I were a politican, I would want to say if I were a senator or a candiate for congress or what not, I'd like to say Bush is a lying son of a bitch or something to that effect but of course I would have to tone myself. Thats why I wont make a good politican, I blurt easily and I am an idealist, and besides I hate public speaking but speechwriting has been considered by me.

3. 1 1/2 years into 3 year term
I am a Selectman in a NH town. First elected office at the age of 60. 3 person board that is the executive of the town. Charged by an ancient state law with the responsibility for the "prudential affairs" of the town. It sure has been interesting. Especially with the trickling down of the costs from the state and federal level in the Republican administrations of Bush and Benson. I think a lot about whether I want to run again if my term is up, or if anyone will want to elect me again! But the good part is that I have met some of the most wonderful people in the world, the people who volunteer for a town. I get paid a little for my work, but most of the town boards are purely volunteer. And get little praise. Wonderfu people who really care, many of them.

4. Welcome to DU, nhselectwoman!
Good luck in politics. You are a better person than for being so involved. :toast:
