Anyone like Cake?
Edited on Sun Jul-25-04 03:04 PM by VolcanoJen
Cake, the band, or Cake, the flour-based baked good... it doesn't really matter.

+
= Goodness!

I'm listening to "Fashion Nugget" right now, and I miss them...

3. or CAKE, the phony drug Chris Morris scared England with?
He did this great tv bit, phony scare story about a devious new drug called CAKE... apparently people fell for it.

4. anything but...
That yellow cake from Niger, which was eaten by Rumsfeld, last I heard. It had Colin Powell's likeness in the icing, and little candles of Blair's ass sticking up out of the cake as a novelty. :+

6. Yeah, though I haven't listened to them since I moved away
They started out nearby my hometown and were part of the local scene. Since I've been in Louisiana I've kind of lost track of their music. I miss them too.

7. I had tickets to TWO of their canceled shows.
Singer was always coming down with a cold, as I recall. Very disappointing... but their music lives on. :D

The mid-to-late 90s was an exhilerating time for music fans... Britney, and pop, notwithstanding.

8. There's another Cake - a great "girl" group from the '60s
Edited on Sun Jul-25-04 03:35 PM by flamingyouth
Their record is pretty hard to find, but it's worth it. I don't know if it ever got rereleased on CD or not. Very Spector-esque production, great harmonies. I love them.

<music geek stepping back into corner now....:freak:>

12. Here's part of the back sleeve of the record
Edited on Sun Jul-25-04 04:36 PM by flamingyouth
It was on Decca. I love their little Edie Sedgwick look they had going on. ;) Notice how this was very "you girls just do the singing, and let the men take care of the music." LOL Still, a very cool record.

19. Malcolm Rebennack = Dr. John?
Right? This has Dr. John as a hired gun piano player and songwriter? Maybe he and Jeannette were dating at the time or something.

Pretty cool

17. Cake Rocks
Saw Cake (the band) play at some weird yuppie watering hole -- total mismatch, and almost nobody was listening to them, so they said "Hey, I think this is the perfect crowd for this next song" and they launched into the old disco song "I Will Survive" which had not yet shown up on their album. I thought it was a great "zinger" to the rude dweebs... It wasn't quite as bad as the Blues Brothers playing Bob's Country Bunker, but it was reminiscent.

There's a definite "sameness" to their stuff, but more often than not, it doesn't matter because so often everything works perfectly. "Jolene" to "Italian Leather Sofa" to "The Distance" the formula is there, but it really works.

You say you miss them... did they break up? Nobody tells me anything...

and they rocked.

They played Tastefest (so it was free). Very enjoyable, lots of people at the concert.
