TimeWarp Sunday - Squeeze!! |
|
Sunlight on the lino, wakin' me with a sha-aaa-ake I looked around to find her but she was gone' Goodbye girl...
I haven't been able to call it "linoleum" since the 80's. Call me an Anglophile American Geek Dorkass Caught In The Web of An 80s TimeWarp That Sane People Would Resist, but "lino" remains one of my favorites. :D seriously. go ahead and call me that.
Next, let's discuss the greatness of "Take Me, I'm Yours."
There's so much more to Squeeze than "Tempted," JenJen :D

"Up The Junction" and "Goodbye Girl" are also among my faves.
And thank you, Jen. You know, I've been looking for a way to describe myself for years now, and Anglophile American Geek Dorkass Caught In The Web of An 80s TimeWarp That Sane People Would Resist is absolutely perfect. I think you need to copyright it. :loveya:

Also, both excellent songs!
Yeah, I don't want anything on my car that would cause people to rear-end me. But the next time someone asks me to describe my musical tastes, well....

She unscrews the top of a new whiskey bottle Shuffles about in her candlelit hovel Like some kind of witch with blue fingers in mittens She smells of the cats and the neighbors she sickens...
Ah...it doesn't get any better than that folks!

9. I got a job with Stanley, he said I'd come in handy... |
|
.. and started me on Monday, so I had a bath on Sunday I worked eleven hours, and bought the girl some flowers She said she'd seen a doctor, and nothing now could stop her
I've always been impressed by the musical tastes of DUers, save for the odd William Hung/Yes thread. ;-)

Used to play them when I was a DJ in college back in the mid 80's...
My bias is showing, because my favorite is "Black Coffee In Bed". :hangover:
A friend introduced me to them in high school though, so I know there are more than the hits! :toast:

11. If I - If I - If I Didn't Love "Take Me I'm Yours" |
|
Edited on Sun Jul-25-04 05:14 PM by Crisco
I might bring up a different tune.
If I didn't love you I'd hate you I'm playing your stereogram Singles remind me of kisses Albums remind me of plans
Or maybe something more like
She like the recipes a touch of oriental Steaming up the windows burning egg on metal, Sees in a catalogue a shiny new appliance Another role swallowed by the wonders of science, Lobster hands Omelette pans, Understand How the crown can stick like jam in her kingdom.

12. Saw Glen Tilbrook in concert last winter |
|
He was so great. Just him and his guitar- did all the hits.
Took the entire audience out to the parking lot to do "Pulling Mussels from a Shell" It was hilarious!
If he comes to your town GO!

16. My college station wore out a copy |
|
We wore out the vinyl of Argybargy cueing up "Pulling Mussels" -- you had to find where the music started, then turn the record back about a full turn so it would get up to speed before the song started, so the lead-in BEFORE the track started eventually sounded like an old Edison 78. When you listened, you could tell the song before the first note! But I think it was played on virtually every shift on the station for about six months.
Argybargy is da bomb, even though East Side Story got all the critical attention.
And the LONG version of "Take Me I'm Yours" is essential... I hate that they put the edited version on all the greatest hits sets.
Sadly, I'm not 100% on the Squeeze wagon -- they were certainly hit or miss to be sure, especially after the "Difford and Tilbrook" fiasco. (Gee, we have this really great band that's finally getting attention after years of working under the radar... let's break it up and form a duo!) Wish I had a dollar for every great band that broke up for stupid reasons.

Just saw Glenn Tilbrook (lead singer and lead guitarist for Squeeze) play the other night at a small club. It was one of the best shows I've ever seen, maybe THE BEST. He played all of those amazing Squeeze tunes, with his rocking 3 piece band. And the songs from his new solo album are fantastic. If he's playing in your town, DON'T MISS IT!
