My favorite .wav file is:

And you probably won't understand what it means until you hear the sound file...

16. When I first moved to Boston ...
I had a friend who said to me, "I gawda go shawpin' at jird'n mahsh," which meant "I've got to go shopping at Jordan Marsh" (a department store). But, other than that, I think Nomaaaaaaah is the best. Also, read about a teacher who asked his students to spell "shock," and they promptly replied s-h-a-r-k.

19. Shegga
As in 'please pass the shegga.' It was in this context that I first heard 'sugar' pronounced that way, and the Bostonian requesting the sugar had to ask me twice; I just didn't understand

26. wick'd
Although not a Bostonian or even as Massachusetian (is that even a word?) as a mid-west transplant who moved to Connecticut when I was in high school (now that was fun- NOT!). WICKED/wick'd (whatever spelling) was the word that was the one word I adopted into my lexicon aside from replacing the word "pop" for soda.
