Dumb question: who sang "I Ain't Got No Home" (modern version) |
|
I know the song was originally done by Clarence "Frogman" Henry but I also remember a more off kilter, modern version with pitched up and pitched down vocal verses.
I heard this song in the supermarket today and was trying to describe it to my wife but she had no idea what I was talking about.

1. Woody Guthrie wrote it |
|
And Springsteen covered Guthrie's version in the late 80's.

2. Yep, I always thought it was a Guthrie tune |
|
Might want to go to All Music Guide and look it up in the search bar--just change the dropdown from 'name' to 'song'. Or see if this link works: http://www.allmusic.com/cg/amg.dll?p=amg&token=&sql=17:670655

"Ain't got no home" is credited to Henry (on allmusic from his page)and is a different song than the Guthrie song of the same title. One is about being a drifter and not having a home any more and the other is about singing like a girl and a Frog :) Different songs different lyrics although I must say I am cracking up right now imagining Guthrie singing these lyrics I got a voice. I love to sing. I sing like a girl And I sing like a frog. I’m a lonely boy. I ain’t got a home.
Ooo-ooo ooo-ooo ooo-ooo ooo-ooo ooo
(Frog’s voice:) I ain’t got a mudder. I ain’t got a fadder. I ain’t got a sister. Not even a brudder. I’m a lonely frog, I ain’t got a home.
Oh, what you say to me. Please say to me. Oh, what you say to me. Please say to me. I’m a lonely frog, I ain’t got a home.
(from the Henry version) :hi:

7. I think it is in a Scorsese film |
|
I'm thinking Casino but it might be Goodfellas.. It is a pretty damn funny song not many have the range that extends from girl to frog..

This song is also in the great movie DINER. I remember Daniel Stern singing it while it played on the radio, driving around Baltimore at night. This version is from the 50's.

The Band did a cover of Clarence "Frogman" Henry's "Ain't Got No Home" on their covers album, Moondog Matinee. It came out in the mid-'70s on Capitol Records.
I believe that's the one you're looking for.
