3. Yes, and I didn't know the name of the band or the song for YEARS.
I'd catch the end on the radio and they'd NEVER say the band.

So I just googled "dirty water" "boston you're my home" and found out the answer. All those years.

Dirty Water
The Standells

(Ed Cobb)

(spoken:)
I'm gonna tell you a story
I'm gonna tell you about my town
I'm gonna tell you a big bad story, baby
Aww, it's all about my town

Yeah, down by the river
Down by the banks of the river Charles (aw, that's what's happenin' baby)
That's where you'll find me
Along with lovers, fuggers, and thieves (aw, but they're cool people)
Well I love that dirty water
Oh, Boston, you're my home (oh, you're the Number One place)
Frustrated women (I mean they're frustrated)
Have to be in by twelve o'clock (oh, that's a shame)
But I'm wishin' and a-hopin, oh
That just once those doors weren't locked (I like to save time for
my baby to walk around)
Well I love that dirty water
Oh, Boston, you're my home (oh, yeah)

Because I love that dirty water
Oh, oh, Boston, you're my home (oh, yeah)

Well, I love that dirty water (I love it, baby)
I love that dirty water (I love Baw-stun)
I love that dirty water (Have you heard about the Strangler?)
I love that dirty water (I'm the man, I'm the man)
I love that dirty water (Owww!)
I love that dirty water (Come on, come on)

6. I swear there was a point in the late 70s or early 80s when some band
recorded a version for every city in America. Likelier of course is that some precursor of Clear Channel did promos of it for many cities, or that a couple bands did it for a couple of cities and I happened to hear more than one of them. Anyway, I'm pretty sure I remember ones for Philadelphia and, here's the odd one, this here town Columbia SC. I mean, not to crack on my hometown too badly, but you have to be scraping pretty near the bottom of the barrel to get around to doing a version for us. Does anybody else remember this, or was I just hallucinating again?

9. One of the DJs at WAPL in Appleton WI recorded a version for Milwaukee
During the Cryptosporidium outbreak in the mid 90s.

10. In 1979, a British group called the Inmates did a remake of "Dirty Water."
Instead of Boston and the River Charles, however, they sang about London and the River Thames.

The single reached #51 on the Billboard Hot 100. Perhaps that was what you heard back then?

This has to be the fourth reference so far to a single or band from that album in 24 hours.
