eBay question
It's been a couple of years since I've used eBay, so I need some assistance on an eBay problem.

I bought an item on 7/5. Immediately after the auction was over--I'm talking within minutes--I arranged for payment and emailed the seller. I've had the item for at least a week now, but I still don't have feedback. I haven't left feedback because I feel like she should leave hers for me first--I completed my end of the transaction before she did. Should she have left feedback by now? Should I?

1. Many sellers won't leave feedback
until you do - afraid of not being able to retaliate. Its a horseshit way of doing business and when I sold I posted feedback when I got paid.

I've noticed many, many sellers going to that style - so, if you want feedback I think you need to ante up first. If not, then don't give it to 'em and let it go. I've just accepted folks will act that way but still find it a little annoying.

2. You have plenty of time
You have up to 60 days to leave feedback. That should be the least of your worries. Were you completely happy with your item. Was it as described. Was the shipping satisfactory. If so leave positive feedback. Lots of sellers have been slammed by buyers who just want to leave negatives. Therefore, sellers have begun to not leave feedback until they have received it first.

For some further reading go to ebay, click on community at the top right of the page, then click on "discussion boards" on the community page, then under the "community help boards" click on feedback. Another one to read is at the bottom of the "community help boards" named "Trust and safety (Safeharbor)" Be advised there are lots of scams going on right now. Be careful when replying to anything that looks like it has been sent from ebay asking for your password or any other contact information.

3. no rules
Feedback is entirely voluntary. There are no shoulds. Some people leave it automatically, some do a bunch at once, some never do it.

Leave feedback if you want feedback. Most people will leave feedback for you if you've left it for them.

If you haven't been there for years and intend to use it again, you probably need/want the seller's feedback more. I'd prime the pump if I were you.

I left the feedback. :)

Edit--and then I found out she hasn't left me feedback because she's no longer a registered user. Hm.

6. that's odd, but...
If she was a high volume dealer on eBay, they might only leave feedback on a weekly or monthly basis.

some people leave all their feedback at once (i know i do.) if they've sold a lot of items they might pick one day a week/month to go through and complete the feedback.

edit: hah, nevermind. i'm slow to post.

7. More than likely, they will leave feedback eventually, like I do...
I usually do about 30 updates at one time. So, I might leave feedback about every couple of months. Nothing to worry about. If you contact the seller and ask them to leave the feedback, I am certain that they will leave it now. That usually works when buyers ask me to leave the feedback sooner than later.

8. Just go ahead and leave feedback
As a seller I leave feedback the minute I'm paid. As abuyer I leave feedback the minute I get the item in the mail. Many sellers don't leave feedback for a buyer until after the buyer leaves feedback. I don't know why. But if you go the item and you're happy with it, leave feedback. Who cares if the seller ever leaves you feedback or not. In the long run one feedback, more or less, won't make a bit of difference.

9. I wait until they do. I researched a guy who hadn't left feedback yet
for about two months. It appears he updates his feedbacks quarterly. So he will wait to get mine. :hi:

10. buyers MUST leave feedback first
Sellers are advised on ebay's community boards to wait for buyers to leave feedback. Reason -- many scam buyers wait for the seller to leave positive feedback, then they come back and attack the buyer to get an unjustified refund. While it isn't the law of the land or anything, any seller who leaves feedback first is unlikely to last very long. There are just too many scammers out there these days. As a seller, I figure if a buyer wants positive feedback, she can get out there and leave me feedback first. After all, in the end, it doesn't really matter that much what a buyer's feedback says, while it is very important what my feedback says as a seller. So if she is not willing to help me out, I just don't leave any comment.

The seller is not allowed to come out and tell you that buyers must leave feedback first, but if you are involved in the community boards for awhile, you pick up the rules.

If you as a buyer want good feed, you have to leave good feed.

12. no rulez

"The seller is not allowed to come out and tell you that buyers must leave feedback first, but if you are involved in the community boards for awhile, you pick up the rules."

Amazona, there are no rules like this, and sellers aren't muzzled on eBay -- how could they be?

You may have evolved some customs, but most people don't know about them!

Feedback from the buyer is sometimes the only way the seller knows the item arrived, so prudent buyers wait to see if there's a problem they need to resolve, and to see if the buyer is reasonable about it.

11. There are lots of sellers who....
wait to see what you've written first before they ever will leave feedback for you. I guess they are afraid you will leave them negative feedback. I don't leave feedback until I've received what I've purchased. One time I forgot to leave feedback for a couple of weeks. Within seconds of posting feedback, I had a positive feedback from the seller.

I really do appreciate the ones that give feedback the minute they get paid, but sadly, they are among the minority of sellers these days.

:hippie:
