Just listened to Toby Keith's "Angry American" |
|
Also know as "Courtesy of the Red White and Blue" I had heard snippets before, but I finally downloaded the song and listened to the whole wretched thing.
I pity those who are inspired by such vile, unthinking jingoism as this.
After one listen, I promptly deleted the mp3 from my computer. I felt guilty just having it on the hard drive.
However, downloading a Toby Keith song gave me an idea. I may seek out the opinions of some of his fans and determine what 16 to 18 of his "songs" they would consider to be his "best", illegally download them all, burn numerous CD's and sell them to the TK fans for about $10.00 a pop. Make me some bucks and rip off Toby at the same time!
Never liked the idea of piracy, but for this ass-clown, I might have to hoist the jolly roger!

Obviously doesn't have a clue what Democrats stand for? How could you write and record a song like that and call yourself a Democrat. So full of hate. And his bashing of the Dixie Chicks...
Democrat, indeed.

So... any idea what songs would constitute the Ultimate Toby Keith Collection?

but I heard enough of it to disgust me. Mindless tripe for . I've intensely disliked Keith ever since, but I hear he is a Dem and perhaps not as nauseating as his song would suggest. If you can even sell a Toby Keith album for $10, go for it!

This thread was not established on an anti-country music premise, but on an anti-ignorant, jingoistic, shit-fer-brains music premise. There is, to my mind, at least, a big difference.

Actually, I learned that kpharmer was, in fact, Mrs. Venation in our exchanges re: the infamous "What is a Redneck" thread of a week or so back.
I learned a great deal from the responses to that thread. I have since been able to mend fences with my estranged S.O. (who was put off by my "redneck fixation")

and most people are urged to register Democrat in order to vote in the primaries. On the state level the Republican party is very weak here, and the Democratic Party primary is basically the only election. So I'm sure when he turned 18 he was told to register democrat.
No matter what "Should have been a Cowboy" and "Beer for My Horses" are great songs. I guess "Beer for My Horses" could be explained by Willie Nelson's involvement.

20. Difference of Opinion |
|
A song like that I don't think they were trying to give some big message or anything. It just strikes me as a good song to play while drinking. There are certainly other songs that I would put higher on the typical redneck patriotism than that song. Lynryd Skynrd was a far worse offender of their own legacy with "Red White and Blue" as far as I'm concerned.

don't represent vigilante justice. As I said the song doesn't seem like it is trying to jam some agenda down your throat to me. Certainly no more than say, "hit me baby one more time". Just a song that Toby and Willie would like to sing while drinking a little whiskey (of course). Just the same as I don't think Ted Nugent was pushing an agenda with "Wang Dang Sweet Poon Tang" maybe I don't agree with their politics, but they aren't Rage Against the Machine and pushing their beliefs with every song either.

the song "I Want to Talk About Me". I'm not a big fan of some of his politic statements, but enjoy a lot of his music. Not sure if you have heard, but he is building a concert hall/restaurant in Bricktown and it will be called "Toby Keith's Roadhouse". Should be fun to go to.
