Okay, gimme your best BeBop (hard bop, post bop, etc.) suggestions. |
|
I'm currently on a Mingus kick--always a good thing--but I'm always looking for something new and different (or old and temporarily forgotten) to reach for next.
So, lemme have it.

1. Doth mine ears hear the Elizabethan tongue of yore; as I understand not? |
|
Wouldst thou speak hereon of musical arrangements? Alas, my creaked age renders me deaf and mute to the fashionable pursuits of youth.

7. You asked...and here they are! |
|
In no particular order...dig on these!
Charlie Parker & Dizzy Gillespie: Groovin' High.
Dizzy and the MJQ: Our Love Is Here To Stay.
Thelonious: Brilliant Corners (from that album) or 'Round Midnight fron the "Live at the It Club" album.
Mingus: Haitian Fight Song (I'll bet you just checked that one out! :) )
The Duke Ellington Orchestra: Harlem Air Shaft
Alternate choices: Duke and Trane's "The Feeling of Jazz" and Duke and Coleman Hawkins' "Limbo Jazz" (just for fun)

11. Gotta mention my two favourites from that Miles era |
|
E.S.P (track 5 sucks, track 7 the best) possibly roundabout second to Kind of Blue (ish).
Filles de Kilimanjaro (tracks 1,4 and 5 the best)

12. Anything by Herb Ellis or Joe Pass |
|
If you like albums for their compositions, then Ellis's 7 Come 11 is great...if not then get compilations of either artist. :hi:
