If John Lennon & MLK were alive they would have been speaking tonight
Edited on Mon Jul-26-04 10:18 PM by VoteDemocratic2004
This is our time to shine and I believe if John Lennon and Martin Luther King were alive today they would have been speaking tonight.

1. I agree. I watched the speeches on C-Span and mentioned how much I
missed MLK. Can you *IMAGINE* what he would have to say about Bush?!?

2. MLK would be doing alot more then speaking right?
I miss our great leaders of the past they were taken from us too soon.

We need another MLK right now.

3. MLK would.
Lennon? He wasn't a US citizen and might have been perceived as too countercultural (which wouldn't bother me, but might bother some).

4. Lennon would have been 64 this October
he probably wouldn't seem counterculture now, but be a baby boomer icon. And I can see the baby boomers running the show trying to get him there to sing "Imagine".

Maybe they'll sing it yet - they had someone sing "Blowin' in the Wind" tonight.

5. Depends
on what JLs behavior would have been between 1980 and now. He was full of surprises. I suspect those lyrics about "imagine there's no countries" and "no religion too" would nix Imagine in the current climate.

6. King would kick ass IF (too bad ifs don't occur)
Can you imagine King addressing the Convention reminising about the days Republicans want to go back to:
sicking police dogs on black americans.
guardsmen shooting into a crowd of anti-war protesters.
KKK ruling the south with an iron and brutal hand.

how elequent to hear: "In the 1960's I spoke of a dream of a better America, today we have this nightmare that is America. It is time to struggle back to the mountain top. It is time to rekindle the dream of a united America, a safer America a better America."

This can only be done with John Kerry and John Edwards.

10. Are you sure they wouldn't be outside protesting
the all white ticket that voted for the war?
I'm not really sure where they would be today.
