I'm gay. But I just don't get the transexual thing, at all. But it helps me understand how bewildered some heterosexuals must be about gays. And I've actually dated some men who did drag (I lived in the French Quarter for 20 years so it was mandatory) but it still completely evades me.
And, yes, he looks great, but still... Oh, and I never, EVER dated a man with breasts. It would completely weird me out.

if I wanted to be with a woman I would be.
I need a real man. Which I have, so it's all good.
BTW, she is attractive, it's just not my thing as far as what type of person I want to be with.
But I do respect people for being who they are.

this person has breasts, is it likely this person (i don't know the polite pronoun in this instance, damn our sexist language!) has also changed genetalia?
i know most drag queens are physically male, who like to playw/ & alter their appearance for fun. if my limited knowledge is correct, they are sometimes gay, sometimes bi, but are a subset in the gay community, not attractive to all gay men. but do surgical sex-change tranny's compete in these events, or do they become women, no longer of the gay community?
CAVEAT: no flamebait here. i have the utmost respect for my gay brothers, as well as my gay sisters. all you guys have been tormented for your inclinations & it's every bit as disgusting as racism. i'm just curious about the myriad of available options in the life.

9. The headline says Transexual |
|
That would imply to me that this person had a M-F sex change. Hence, when referring to HER you should use HER and not HIS or HIM.
A transvestite is someone who dresses in womens (or mens for that matter) clothes. Transvestites seldom (hence the different words) want to be other than the sex they were born in, they just like the clothes.
A person who is transgendered is someone with some gender identity issues and is sometimes "corrected" with a sex change opperation. Once someone falls into this catagory they should be reffered to as the gender of their choosing her, not him ... she not he, etc.
Aside from general understanding that it goes on, I claim no understanding of the underlying motivations. I too "Don't get it". I do not however feel the need to question someone else in matters like this and try (and sometimes fail) to respect their wishes as far as public address and common curtesy.
And yes, I am speaking in sweeping generalizations and ambiguities. Get over it. It's four paragraphs, not a thesis.

Male to female transexuals ususally (not always) have the full package done -- castration, the removal of the penis, and the creation of a vagina. It is proper to refer to this person as "she". She can be either straight, lesbian, or bi. I saw one interesting story on a fellow (who had been straight as a man) who went through his transformation into a woman and remained attracted to women. So this straight man was destined to be a lesbian woman. The men I know who have transgendered into women have all become straight women attracted to straight men.
Due to the technological restrictions of the medical field, female to male transexuals have mastectomies (not always) but often are left with their original external female sex organs. It's incredibly hard to make a penis out of a labia -- even the best surgical procedures available leave a patient with a very poor imitation of a penis. It is proper to refer to this person as "he". He too can be either straight, gay, or bi. Teena Brandon of "Boys Don't Cry" was a young woman who was attracted to women; if she'd had the chance to finish her transformation she would have become a straight man.
Transvestites are folks who dress in the clothing of the opposite gender because it makes them feel internally comfortable and/or it brings with it a sexual gratification. Most transvestites are straight men and most are not interested in changing their gender identity.
"Drag" can be something entirely different, often more a cultural expression than a true gender expression. I've seen drag queens who only dress for events, and others who take female hormones, who dress 24/7, but are all boy below the belt and intend on staying that way.
As for that pageant, since it is a "transexual" pageant, I would think that would mean post-operative transexual, but I think you'd have to read the rules to see who the event was open to.
I think it's safe to say that gender identifty and sexual preference can be equally f-l-u-i-d.
