South Park Watchers Please Help Settle A Question
My husband mentioned that Trey Parker and Matt Stone are making a movie. He claims that it's going to be leftist. However, I remember them doing an interview in some magazine back in 2000 or 2001 about "That's my Bush" where they said they were Republican and liked Bush. What is their political affiliation?

Thanks
Steph

1. They like to mess with people.
Don't expect a straight answer out of them.

2. I've heard
its going to bash liberal Hollywood as being out of touch, but they've always done that (Barbra S., Rob Reiner, etc)

They claim to be libertarian, but as someone pointed out yesterday, they themselves are rich Hollywood types. They just think they're smarter than everyone else. Repukes they are IMHO.

3. Someone posted something about this yesterday.....
They are doing some movie with a sub plot about hollywood liberals and something else along those lines.

Those guys I don't think are left or right. They are just libertarians who don't like the moral scolds on either side. They don't like the uptight religious right, and they don't like the overly PC super sensitive left. But they are also wealthy so they probably think with their pocketbooks as well.

4. They were making that show regardless
If Gore had won the show would have focused on him.

Bush won, so the show focused on him.

5. They are Libertarians.
Social Liberals and probably financial conservatives. As far as I can tell, no Republican or Conservative would or could ever make a show like South Park or the movie version. They are OK in my book, especially after their appearance in "bowling for Columbine"

6. I adore Trey Parker
I loved the show "That's My Bush" and most of the interviews they gave were talking about how the show was political in nature; regardless of who was elected but they had a field day with Bush being elected as far as for comedy value.

With their show, movies, etc; they are far from conservative. They are rather intelligent men who use their type of humor to get a point across. I am a big fan and have enjoyed all their appearances on Dennis Miller, before he lost his mind, and other shows. They keep up with the issues and are liberal.

8. The Onion - Is There A God
HEATHENS ...

Directors, producers, actors, and enfants terrible Trey Parker and Matt Stone are most widely known as the minds behind South Park.

The Onion: Is there a God?

Trey Parker: Yes! Absolutely.

O: Do you believe in more of a nebulous spirit world, or a big man in the sky?

TP: Wow, you know, this would be an eight-hour conversation, and you'd have to get me a little more drunk. I can explain exactly what's going on, but I need to be a little more drunk. I really do have it figured out. I figured it out about a year ago, and it's great. It's all good. We're fine.

O: But the central thesis is that there is a God.

TP: No. There's a God, and there's also this table, and it's the same thing.

O: Matt Stone, is there a God?

Matt Stone: No.

TP: Oh, there's also a God, and his name is Prince.

10. The one issue that gets ignored in these threads is this
It's not whether or not Parker and Stone are RW or LW, it's what their other writers are.

Since they hit the big time, P& S have deligated a lot of work to others, including writing. That's why I think there's a weird balance of views. As I know one of them is a self-proclaimed libertarian, I figure they hire people of both sides.

snip.................

Trey Parker is co-creator of the smash cable TV hit "South Park" and the new satirical sitcom "That’s My Bush!" He’s also a libertarian and a member of the Libertarian Party, according to a profile in the April 4, 2001 Los Angeles Times.

Trey Parker and his partner Matt Stone created "South Park" together, and in 1997 Comedy Central began airing it. The show quickly became one of cable TV’s hottest items, averaging 2.3 million viewers. "South Park" was also the basis for a recent hit feature film. Many libertarians say they’ve observed libertarian elements in various episodes of the show.

"That’s My Bush!" is the latest from Parker and Stone. They say they intend the show to be more a satire on sitcoms than political satire, though it does have obvious political elements -- President George W. Bush is the central character.

While discussing politics, Parker told the Times that he is a registered Libertarian. Stone said: "I don't think I'm registered to vote."
