2. yes, indirect attacks
Republicans attack it such a sophomoric way. They become a bore after awhile. This attack made you think. That's the difference between an attack from a wizened former Dem president and a frat boy pRez.

3. He's old, but not dead
I loved the way he skewered Bush with unspoken verbal daggers while smiling and twinkling like a sweet old granddaddy.

Like emphasizing that Kerry "Showed up for duty" and then leaving a little pregnant pause to remind the audience of who didn't show up for duty.

4. Carter sounded angry!
I listened on the radio and there was a hint of anger in his voice. It was very effective.

5. Full Text (short)-on Kerry "He showed up when assigned to duty"
Today, our Democratic party is led by another former naval officer - one who volunteered for military service. He showed up when assigned to duty, and he served with honor and distinction.

He also knows the horrors of war and the responsibilities of leadership, and I am confident that next January he will restore the judgment and responsibility to our government that is sorely lacking today. I am proud to call Lieutenant John Kerry my shipmate, and I am ready to follow him to victory in November.
