Almost everyone read a comic when they were growing up.... |
|
If so, what was it? We don't need issues, but characters.
For me it was the rugged he-man adventures of...Richie Rich.
Laugh if you must.

an old thundercats comic, from back when they had the show on. As for avengers, I'm gonna pick it up soon. I'm not sure if new avengers is out yet. Weapon x is surprisingly a good book that's being slept on. Frank teri does some cool stuff with older 3rd string x-characters.

4. BTW, do you have the new Avengers? |
|
I'm a Bendis fan but not a fan of the title. I heard that major shit happens in this new issue. I was wanting some spoilers.
BTW, I think you're the only Weapon X fan I've ever "met". I haven't read the title, but it doesn't get a lot of good press.

the comics weren't funny and the gum lasted 10 seconds...
But nevertheless, summer wouldn't have been the same without 'em.

I don't think I saw a Marvel comic till I was about 11. (Grew up in a small northern MN town in the early 60s.) It was like a wonderful different flavor of ice cream.

|
X-Men Fantastic 4 The Mighty Thor Power Pack (I know, I am the only one who likes this title) Machine Man The Incredible Hulk The Sensational She Hulk
Pretty much all of Marvel now that I think about it. Also read all the special issues and crossovers.

14. My father wanted to be a garbage man. |
|
Not *just* a garbage man. He wanted to drive the truck.
He figured that he could sit in the truck all day reading the comic books that people threw away.
This was in the late 1940's.

Much Disney and Hanna-Barbera (edit: Harvey Comics too. Loved Hot Stuff.) when I was a small kid, and superheroes later, but the spot of honor goes to... http://www.brazzil.com/p35dec95.htm

Not DC or Marvel. Was it Dell? Lost touch with them at 12 years old when my family moved. Wish I could dig up some other issues.

Fantastic Four, Silver Surfer.
For modern comics, check out The Desert Peach (Rommel's gay brother), and what's that one where there's a German village inhabited by centaurs? There's some cool stuff out there yet...!

was first drawn by a soldier during WWII and published in the US Army's YANK magazine. I think Beetle Bailey came much later  http://home.att.net/~thft/sad.htm

24. "The Amazing Spiderman" in the 70's.............. |
|
I was crazy for the web-slinger. Forget who the artist was (Ditko?). Another 70's fave was "The Fantastic Four" back when Galactus was a regular nemesis. I seem to remember Kirby-style artwork (but everybody seemed to copy the King back then).
In the 80's, I read and collected John Byrne-penciled X-Men. I really like Byrne's artwork. I always felt that the late 70's-early 80's was the prime era for the X-Men.

These two cover the whole gamut of the human condition. They should be required reading.

and Superman, Lois Lane and all the others in the DC Superman series. And Archie, Betty & Veronica, and the (then) wonderful Donald Duck comics, which were a riot. And years later.... the Silver Surfer.
And MAD Magazine.
