Zone Alarm.........good, or bad?
friend told me to use it, cause I can't bet Norton to work on new computer (firewall part), and I have trouble getting DSL hookup sometimes

keeps selfdiagnosing and defaulting to original settings

is this good?

getting all kinds of alerts of impingement from sites with unrecognizable codes

just got annother one as I type

1. I use it...
Zone Alarm Pro. You can disable the alerts if you want to, you don't need to see them anyway.
Self-diagnosing? Never encountered that.

2. I've been using ZoneAlarm Pro...
for the last few years. It has lots of options so that you can set it to fit your needs. Personally, I really like it. I set it so I don't have to see all the warnings. When I finally look at log, I'm amazed how many times something or someone has tried to access my computer. I believe that you can never have enough security software. ZoneAlarm is considered the best of the bunch. I am no authority on such matters, but I have been really happy with it.

:hippie:

3. I like it
I don't use the pro version- just the free one- but it has really helped with virus control :-)

4. I use it
and have never had a problem. I did upgrade to the Pro package. I am such a dope with computers but it is fairly easy to figure out and seems well worth the money.

7. Good!
I use the free version of Zone Alarm and it works great.

You can turn off all the notices about who is hitting your computer.

8. I had it once
Worked pretty well and it was amazing to do a reverse lookup of those trying to access my computer. I had to uninstall ( on another 'puter) due to technical difficulties. Somehow that told my computer it had a missing registry everytime I rebooted, so just be careful if you uninstall.

10. Good
I just move the alert box to the bottom of the screen and check on it from time to time, and especially before I switch off.

Black Ice is good too.
But you really ought to get the disc and only intall it after you have installed the bulk of your other programs.
Black Ice has easily adjusted settings but if you set them on max and then forget and try to install something, it will never even register because Black Ice is RUTHLESS.
I did once hear something negative about Black Ice and data collection, but I must confess I never really really followed up with it.
And there are a couple other good ones out there
but I don't want to give away ALL my secrets.

but I much prefer the Sygate Personal Firewall. I tried ZoneAlarm and was displeased with its performance. I switched to Sygate, and have had -0- problems ever since

13. Version 5 is good, version 6 sucks and will block your internet access
I've heard good things about Sygate though.
