1. Nothing new
There's nothing new in solar. Fusion and hydrogen have seen some major technological breakthroughs in recent years, but solar is mostly just making incremental imrovements to existing technology. Given that PS is supposed to be a "technology" mag, it just makes sense.

2. Solar didn't pan out
People were hoping for a huge leap in performance of solar panels.

It didn't happen.

Nobody wants to buy a solar powered car with 36 square feet of solar panels for a roof.

Solar power is a growth industry. Just because you haven't seen it lately on MSNBC doesn't mean the rest of the world isn't developing and adopting it.

If you're looking for a practical form of solar for a car, use biodiesel. 700 miles/tank in a VW Jetta TDI.
