I just got off the phone with the FBI!

They already know about the scammers who called me last night.

3. Last night some guy called...

He gave his name as (improbably) "Samuel Morris" and said he was from the "Federal Government Grant Information Center" and that Xen and I were approved for a grant of at least $8000. All we had to do was pay a completely refundable $249 processing fee, which required that I read off my bank's routing number, my account number, and a valid check number. When I said I wouldn't do that on the phone he assured me it was a "secure, recorded Federal line."

So I gave him phony info and strung him along until he gave me his company's 800 number, with the idea that the FBI could find out who had registered the number and bust the scammers.

Today I called the FBI and they already have all of that info, so I don't get to be the one who made this bust possible. :-(
