Ok DU cat lovers - i have a crisis which might make me weep! |
|
Bare with me as I tell it as it is urgent - she's outside my door crying!
Her name is Bear and she's 10 - she "lives" directly across the street from my brand new apartment which I just movwd into. (I am a lifelong cat person (and dog-person but that doesn't matter right now)
She took a shine to me instantly - and, since I've been living here waiting for my fiance to be done with her theater festival on sept. 5 she's been coming around and loving me up on my way out the door to catch the bus for work. Now she's been sleeping onthe chair I left out on the front porch for reading (too f-ing sweet for me to ever have a shred of machismo ever).
Even the future Mrs. CStheT has, on this last trip home begrudgingly felt that this was a long lost lover of mine.
So it poured tonight and , as we moved stuff in I let her inside - she spent about a 1/2 hour in adetailed search to see if my place was good enough for her.
I'm falling in love
i should say that, today, ina chance meeting as my across the street neighbor left with her GREAT DANE - that I am free to adopt her because she has been kicked out since she started peeing ever since they brought the GREAT DANE home. She is basically astray that they leave food out for!!!!
So - do I let her move in? (I don't know anything about her possible conditions - I think she might have fleas) - I had to escort her purring cuteness (she readily lets me hold her and purrs as I kiss her) out into the rain because I fear its all too premature.
Whew - sorry for the length and the run on!

I know of cats that have had seizures after wearing one. If kitty is outdoor type, perhaps Frontline or Advantage would be better solution. If you take responsibility for her, a visit to the vet would be in order if she has not been there. Is she neutered?
Hey, the lady has alreay adopted YOU. We don't adopt cats, they choose us. My fuzzbutt hooked me the moment I saw him as a flea-ridden baby at the SPCA. We took him home, gave him a bath, and gently introduced him to his big brother. They are inseparable 4 yrs. later.
And yes, my hubby swears this guy was a lover of mine too, as do I. It's kitty-karma, enjoy it!

I suggest you enjoy her company for whatever length of time she's with you. It's an honor to be chosen by a feline...they expect you to understand this. ;)
Take her to the vet, who'll tell you all you need to know about any illnesses or parasites she might have.

Just one thing: you really ought to take that kitty to a vet before you let her move in with you, particularly if you think she has fleas!

speaking from my heart here, you must let her stay.
I'm at saturation level, & it breaks my heart to see a homeless cat.
she obviously loves you, as you clearly love her. this animal needs you.
you already know all this, & you've already made your decision. just bolstering your resolve.
you're a great guy, C. you'll have a wonderful relationship w/ this fine animal.
see you around the boards, bro.

I truly feel it is a great honor when a critter 'chooses' me. For me it's one of THE greatest joys and gifts in life, to bond with animals. Any kind of animal not just limited to cats and dogs.

23. Sounds like the Wonder Cat... |
|
The downstairs neighbors had three cats. They were apparently all quite happy. Then, the neighbors got a dog.
One day, I had left the door slightly ajar. Mrs. McG. and I were sitting on the couch, watching TV, and the door opens. Wonder cat walks in, looks around. Then plops down on the couch, and takes a nap.
He's been our cat ever since then.
The neighbors moved away, and Wonder Cat never looked back. I still think he checks out the other neighbors, just in case, though.
Keep the cat. Buy some flea spray. Go to the vet, have him checked for worms, etc. You won't be sorry.

That's how it works, you're stuck now. You have to let her stay, you sure as hell can't let her live outside now that you've bonded.
You're in Chicago right? I have a great vet and know of a couple more good ones depending on where you are located. Let me know if you need the info.

if you are not lacking in $ for her care adopt her! For the love that a pet can give you an occasional flea treatment is well worth the hassel in my opinion. I have 5 cats and I would not give them up for anything!

Let her move in. Take her to the vet to make sure she doesn't have any problems and to get her shots (and spayed, if she hasn't been) then go out and buy a bag of Nature's Recipe or Nutro Natural for her to eat. The cat obviously likes you, and your SO seems to be content with another female in your life. Go for it. That's how I've gotten my cats - taking in abandonded, stray cats and I've never regretted it.

32. How long has this cat been hanging around? |
|
are you sure she's not in heat? Cats get very, very affectionate when they are in heat.
Anyway, as long as the original owner doesn't mind, it's sounds like you are past the point of no return. Hope you have a few extra hundred bucks in your pocket for the initial vet visit and spaying if she needs it.
As for flees, Advantage is the way to go. My cats don't like it when I put it on them, but for the rest of the month they live in comfort and you will rarely see a flee.

I will talk to them in depth before I adopt this girl, though. And, if it goes through, I'll spend what it takes
I should say, though, that my uncle is a vet - so I have that going for me, which is nice!

Congratulations! In my younger years, I used to decide I wanted a pet, and go pick one out. It's been a couple of decades since the last time I did that. They started finding me. It's amazing how much you love the animal that picked you out of the litter.
