Do you ever sometimes feel like getting away from civilization? |
|
Just for a little while? Get away from all of the stress and worry of modern life?

and live in a secluded, rural area. My driveway used to be part of a turnpike from the late 1700s. My house was a stage coach station. I enjoy open fields, wooded areas, and a series of small waterfalls. Plenty of wild life. I see an occassional jet in the sky, or hear some automobiles. But I enjoy being a semi-hermit.

That word implies that we live in a civilized world. I get a lot of flack for being a bit of a hermit because I sit alone in my house a lot. I like it that way when I don't have to deal with this so-called civilization. And I don't say this with any bitterness at all. I accept the fact that a lot of people are pains in the ass.

10. Been there, done that |

I lived w/o electricity and running water for over eight years in a hand-built cabin in the Oregon woods. Used a wood cookstove and kerosene lamps. Built a wood-fired water heater for taking showers. The outhouse would get a little funky in the summer, but it was built on skids so I would just dig a new hole and drag it over and cover up the old one. There was a usually reliable creek close by that I could get water from. Never treated the water and never got giardia or other parasites.
