Woman Uses Body To Shield Child From Pit Bull Attack

HILLSBORO, Ore. -- A vicious dog attack has left a 7-year-old boy and a 51-year-old woman hospitalized after being bitten by two pit bulls.

Authorities say Joshua Pia-Perez was playing in a neighbor's yard around 10am Tuesday when two pit bulls walked up. The boy ran and one or both dogs started biting him.

"He saw the dog coming so he started running. There were three kids and, for some reason, the dogs followed him, two dogs. They attacked him. He tried to run, but he can't," says Cesar Pia, the boy’s father.

The other victim, Kathleen Imel, was driving by the scene and saw the attack. Police say she laid on top of Joshua to protect him from the dogs.

"They lady came and threw her body over the little boy and the dog was going at her, trying to bite at her and the guy over here picked up a stick and was trying beat them off. Both dogs were going around and just trying to take bites," says eyewitness Melissa Lopez.
