'Simpsons' Character To Come Out of the Closet
Fans of hit cartoon The Simpsons are poised for big news - one of the show's long-time characters is set to reveal he's gay. At the moment, many fans are betting the character in question will be Waylon Smithers - who works for evil nuclear tycoon Mr. Burns - but the show's producers are refusing to confirm or deny who it is. Producer Al Jean says, "We have a show where, to raise money, Springfield legalizes gay marriage. Homer becomes a minister by going on the internet and filling out a form. A longtime character comes out of the closet, but I'm not saying who." Show creator Matt Groening jokes, "It's Homer!"

Wow, and Fox is going to allow this on their TV show. Any guesses of who it's going to be. I would think the obvious choice is Waylon, but I'm betting my money on Moe

11. Yes, but Moe is the one that you would least expect and...
....he tries too hard to be straight.

My money is on Moe!

phone calls about wanting "Amanda Hugginkiss"! :-)

29. She's actually decreased in age
When Bart destroyed Lisa's saxophone, they had a flashback to Bart's first day in school and Lisa was much younger in that episode than previous episodes had made her out to be. I think it was just a continuity error on the part of the scriptwriters but nevertheless she seems to be getting younger instead of older

33. Second on Barney.
Smithers is too obvious. Flanders wouldn't be as effective a foil for Homer. Same for Patty. Moe...just not believable. Lenny and Carl...sort of obvious, and it's been alluded to already. I think Barney's our man.

30. I think Lenny and Carl are the obvious choice
It's been hinted at for a long time, and even the guys that do the voices for them have switched roles, at least in the early years. So, in effect, they "speak with one voice". :-)

But maybe comic book guy.

Smithers we know damn well is gay, so no need to out him.

32. The Simpsons has a lot of conservative fans
so it's going to be a subsidiary character that doesn't get camera time every week so as not to piss off viewers.

It's also likely to be someone who's sexuality is questionable to begin with...

If they go for the obvious it's going to be Patty (Smithers is already out for all intents and purposes although the creators always say he's a Burns-sexual whenever the question comes up)

My guess is that it will be Lenny and Carl - the oil rig episode basically removed any doubt about those two with Lenny's Mount Carlmore and Carl's rescue of Lenny later in the episode.

If they go off the reservation I'd say it's Lou and Eddie (the other two police officers) or Fat Tony.

Edited on Wed Jul-28-04 10:18 AM by Mike Daniels
FYI, just because you are conservative doesn't mean you're right wing.

The Simpsons stick to safe issues to skewer and for every jab at the right wing they stick it to the left or have you not seen the unflattering portraits of the Kennedy's (through the Quimby clan) or Bill Clinton throughout the series history.

Incidentally, based on the plot synopsis Springfield isn't allowing gay marriages because of some social statement of equality...they're doing it strictly for mercenary reasons as a way to raise money. Hardly a progressive statement of purpose if you ask me.

43. I hope it's Lindsay Nagel, the Sexual Predator...or Hans Moleman...
Even better would be if it was "Sarcastic Middle Aged Guy", as the voice is constant, but the character changes to suit the plot. It would be like having a gay wildcard character. Same logic applies to "Pimply Faced Teen".

But I think the choice is obvious...it's Marge.

I haven't watched the Simpson's in about 8 years so I can't remember the characters names.

Wild-card here but I think that it will one of them because they are the ones that we wouldn't think would be gay.

46. Its gotta be Patty damn it!

Patty is gay, but there has only been ONE big clue dropped about it:

Smithers: "We're here! We're glad!
Patty: "But don't tell mom and dad!"

49. Yeah, it's gotta be Patty.
Can't be Ned, because (although he is certainly effeminate) he was willing to move from dead Maude to the female Christian country singer played by Dolly Parton.

Doubt it's gonna be anyone who hangs out at Moe's (such as Lenny and Carl)--unless it's Moe (remember how he had Moleman trapped beneath the floor in a Pulp Fictionesque gimp situation).
