"Chairman Mao is like the Sun!" "One word from Chairman Mao is like ten thousand words!" (Slogans from China's Cultural Revolution, 1966.) "Death to all counterrevolutionaries who say otherwise!" And sorry, folks, flame away now. But I see just a hint of this in the fanatical praise of Obama here on DU. I'm relatively new here and have now gotten my first taste of flames in GD, for suggesting that Obama is, well, very good indeed, but perhaps not brilliant. I mean, very good, very intelligent, and he will be a better Senator than almost all of them. I just don't think he's as brilliant as many of our comrades think he is. And I've expressed my support and admiration for him and still do. But, um, are any of us Dems allowed to say anything critical of Obama at all? I mean, like, maybe he's not brilliant, but just very good and better than 99 percent of the Senate right now? I mean, if I say Obama will be a better Senator than 99 of them, except for Byrd, but then say that he's not as great as many DUers think he is - um, does this make me a Counterrevolutionary Running Dog Imperialist Enemy? Do we all have to agree that we love Obama? Can't we just agree that he'll be a great Senator? And is it worthwhile at all, for any of us to remind us all, that personality cults are not what Democracy is about? (Cringing, waiting for flames, and for a Red Guard to put a dunce cap on my head and order me to kowtow to Obama....isn't it enough just to urge people to vote for him? :-)
