Cell phones are not evil!
As with any technology, good or evil comes from the people using it.

I find my cell phone very handy. But:

  • I always turn it off in movie theaters or leave it in the car (duh).

  • I don't talk on it while driving.

  • I don't text-message while driving.

  • I don't have an annoying ring tune that was maybe cute once the first time you heard it.

  • I don't talk on it while also talking to someone else (this includes conducting a transaction with a waitperson, cashier, or other service employee).

    I
  • don't talk loudly on it in public places.

Please put the blame where it belongs: on the morons, not the technology they somehow learned to use.

    2. hey that's great!
too bad not everyone is like that. I agree with you though, entirely, cause I have a cell phone and I behave the same way you do.

add to my list of things that morons with cell phones do:

I was at Subway yesterday trying to get a hold of some food, unfortunately, the dipshit in front of me in line was on her cell phone. The poor person trying to make her sandwiches was stuck because she'd keep talking on the phone, and the worker would ask her a question, to which she would only respond with a sneer and a scoff of "tch...i'm on my phone...imbecile." Eventually, I lost my cool, like I always do, and said to the worker "what the fuck is it with these so self important douchebags that they can't take 5 minutes off from their busy day to order food, move the line, and get the fuck off of everyone's nerves." The woman chose to ignore me, even though she had to have heard me cause I said it very loud. I'm really quite glad she ignored me, cause I didn't want it to go any further. However, after I said that, she said "oh...I have to go, bye." So I guess I won the battle...but the war against inconsiderate cell phone users is far from over.

    John Perry Barlow
made this observation: "Cyberspace is where you are when you're on the phone."

    5. One of the reasons I enjoy walking
is that it gets me out of the house and away from the phone. I don't really want to be at the beck and call of anyone who might choose to call me at any given instant. I'll take freedom over the servitude of a cell phone any day.

    7. You sound like a nice, responsible cell phone user
Too bad that you're in the minority. And that is what makes other people so mad about the damn things, is that people just don't use common sense and use them responsibly.

One other thing you should know about your phone. Take it with you and it(and you) can be tracked wherever you go. It has been the law for a few years now that every cell phone be equipped with a GPS monitoring device for more efficient and timely 911 response. Works whether the phone is off or on.

    9. I knew that, and it bothers me, but it's damn useful for 911 responders
Even a subversive petty criminal like me is more likely to need to call 911 from a remote location than be tracked by the government.

Plus they can only pinpoint you down to the nearest cell phone tower, not the exact location of your phone.
