4. Sigh. Boy, do we miss TJ's |
|
When are they coming to Wisconsin? Illinois is just too far to drive these days. I especially miss the cheese prices...not to mention all the wonderful nibbly things.

Asparagus risotto is my fav. My pups love the dog treats. And they have the best licorice (red) ever. Oh and the wine ;-)

13. Too large?!! They ALREADY ARE a super chain!!!! |

Trader Joes is owned by a HUGE German grocery conglomerate. The food they're selling at TJs is the same stuff they sell at their all of their stores over in Germany. It's also the reason why most of the asian foods they sell taste horrible, I think-- it's like a culinary version of "telephone".
I don't really mind shopping there, but I'd much rather spend my money at a Wild Oats store where I'm pretty sure most of the revenue will stay in this country.

I don't think that TJ carries the German Aldi stuff |
|
I don't know if you've ever been to a German Aldi; it is totally different from TJ.
The different preferences in seasoning, the strict rules on importing/exporting food and the sheer distance seem too much to bother stocking TJ with German groceries.

10. I will never live where there isn't one. |
|
Yes, I'm serious about that. Just moved recently, and that was one of the qualifiers I gave my husband.
Just a few of the things I couldn't live without from TJs:
Bay Blend coffee CHEESE cheap ibuprofen organic eggs, way cheap cheese & green chile tamales TJs dim sum TJs protein powder frozen desserts (including the best price in town on Ben & Jerry's) pierogi pizzas, both frozen & fresh bags of salad lettuce in amazing varieties TJs individual quiches TJs amazing & inexpensive wine & beer selection
I could go on...and on...and on....

All prepackaged foods. Limited fresh produce. No fresh fish. No butcher, fish monger, cheese monger. They barely have employees. Everything stamped with their name brand. Whole Foods/Bread and Circus is much better.

17. Whole Foods is three times as expensive |
|
I can live very cheaply because TJs prices are so low.
The TJs near me does have some fresh fish and has lots of very helpful and friendly employees.

16. Now you have gotten my attention |
|
TJ has the best quality frozen foods I have found. I love their Mandarin Orange Chicken. I usually serve it with Vegetable Pad Thai. It is quick and easy and cheaper than take out.
Their marinated mozzarella is fabulous sliced thin on warm spinach onion stuffed foccacia. This is another fast and quick dinner for us at least once a week.
I love their canned fire roasted tomatoes with green chilies, Teva Ice Tea, Two Buck Chuck, Plugra Butter and The Spinach Salad with cranberries, walnuts and blue cheese.
Life would not be the same without Trader Joe's.
