Is anyone here an elected official or run for an office of some sort?

5. I've done several things
Edited on Wed Jul-28-04 06:59 PM by supernova
for many years: I've tended polls on election day, dropped literature, manned telephone banks, worked fundraisers, manned booths at street fairs and carnivals, registered voters, etc.

Most of the time the Dem party is in the local phone book. If not look up the state party and ask for the number for your local Dem organization. YOu might even find it on line. You'll have to know what precinct you're in (where you vote) to work with your precinct chair if you want to do neighborhood canvassing.

If you have any kind of community event coming up like a street fair or carnival, the Dems are sure to have a booth. You can talk with the volunteers there.

This time around, I got to know several people through the Dean meetups.

edit: Go! Get involved now! You won't regret it! :D You can sign up for meetups at www.johnkerry.com

6. I got hustled...
into a Precinct Delegate slot on the Aug. Ballot. I thought I was volunteering for a shot at being a Dean delegate at the convention! Alas, now I've gotta work my butt off for Kerry. Strangely, I'm looking forward to it. My bestest friend and fellow DUer is going to help me whip up the voters here. I'm also learning a great deal about local politics.

7. I was a precinct captain for 12 years
before I moved into a new house in April.. Sadly, there is already a longtime captain here, but I'll help out.
