1. I know another one that does that |

It's like a soft bark - this cat has some wild blood I believe, but he's a real cutie - he belongs to DS1

4. not a pet psychologist either |
|
but i'm betting on a physical component, perhaps a sinus condition. the cat's purr has been studied for years, & no one can explain the mechanics of it.

7. Funny. I have a dog that purrs... |
|
Seriously, my female boxer purrs like a cat. It's not a dog type growling noise, her growl is very distinct and different from this sound. When she snuggles up with me and gets all cozy she makes a sounds that, well the only way I can describe it is you know when someone has too much saliva in their throat and it makes a gurgling sound? That's what it kinda sounds like. She'll purr like that for up to 10 minutes before she drops off to sleep. Then she snores and farts up a storm
Then I have a cat that thinks he's a dog. Go figure  Great fur babies to have, no ;-)

and the one before this one did too. What's up with that? I have one cat with an amazing vocabulary but have never heard a barking cat. Cool.

if her mouth is open & sort of squared @ the corners when she makes that sound, she using a special olfactory gland in the hard palate.
it's often referred to as "clicking", because the tongue flutters to open & close the opening, but it's not a proper onomatopoeia. it can make a wide variety of sounds. it's a hunting thing.
sign of stimulation, and good for the cat because it's indicative of being entertained.
